Incident: Over the past 6 months I have had two carafes to the Cuisnart DGB-700CRF crack without physical trauma. The inciting event seems to be a mild difference in temperature. Prior to the last carafe cracking, I merely wiped some spilled coffee from the hot plate before replacing the carafe on the plate, I contacted the Cuisinart customer service representative who stated that the carafes are made with tempered glass. She denied any knowledge of other consumers having this type of problem or to replace these units. SHe also reported that Cuisinart does not warrant the carafes.

Incident: The coffeemaker had been turned on manually to brew a pot. About 1 hour after brewing, I heard a crackling noise. It was still plugged in , keeping the carafe warm at the time. I investigated the noise, found the pot to have dark, acrid smoke coming from it (from the hot plate part) and I unplugged it. The smoke and odor of burning plastic continued to build so I grabbed the unit, threw it in the sink and put the fire out with water.

Incident: I have owned the Cuisinart DGB-700BC grind and brew coffee maker for several years. Yesterday, I was sitting in the kitchen and I heard a crackling sound coming from the coffee maker. The unit had automatically turned itself off as it does every day so it wasn't on, but it was plugged in. I went to check and see if something had gotten on the hotplate. It was super hot and smoke was rising from it. Then I noticed smoke coming out of the back of the coffee maker where the plug comes out. I immediately unplugged it. If I hadn't been home, this most certainly would have caused an electrical fire.

Incident: I made coffee with my Cuisinart Grind and Brew DGB 700BC this morning - there was still about 2 cups of coffee in the carafe and the warm function was on. Luckily I was nearby - I heard a boiling sound and went toward the sound which turned out to be the coffee which was boiling in the carafe. As I approached I noticed smoke coming from the base of the unit and a smell of burning plastic/electric components. I quickly unplugged the unit and removed it to a safer surface. I am sure that there would have been a fire if I had not been close by and acted quickly. I have investigated and note that there are others who have had this same problem with this coffee maker as noted on Complaints.com and Amazon.com.

Incident: I had owned the DGB-700BC Cuisinart coffee maker for about 8 months, when yesterday, while making coffee (in no grind mode) with pre-ground coffee, while brewing, electrical smoke started emitting from the unit and the LCD screen went blank. It was evident the hot plate got too hot, as it left quite a burn mark on the bottom of the carafe. I unplugged it immediately. If I were in the shower and not already in the kitchen, I am not sure how bad it could have gotten. Seems like this is a way too common a problem based on what I have read online. Not worth replacing under warranty given the likelihood of this happening again. My place still reeks of electrical fire smoke 24 hours later. I would not recommend this product to my worst enemies!

Incident: We own a Cuisinart Burr Grind & Brew model DGB-700BC coffee maker. My husband is awake for work day around 4:30 a.m. and I normally sleep until approximately around the time my husband leaves, or shortly thereafter. The program was set to start the brew process at 4:30 a.m., as is customary in our home. My husband awakened me in a bit of a panic to say that he, needed my assistance to determine the root cause of the smell of electrical smoke in our kitchen. We quickly determined that it was the coffee pot, and observed a thin trial of white smoke arising from the lower back portion of the unit. The unit was immediately unplugged, never again to be plugged in; at least not in our home. I was unnerved to imagine how the story would be told if the unit over-heated after my husband left if I were not yet awake! After locating online similar stories from various other consumers, I called Cuisinart. The agent never requested the age of the unit nor purchase date, but I assume this is because we are on file with their company - the unit in question was the replacement of a warranted unit that failed less than two years before. I was advised that I'd receive the shipment in 7-10 business days. Outrageous!! Surely Cuisinart, if any company, can understand the plight of a rural-living, work-from-home, happily-caffeine-addicted customer who would have to travel approximately 10 miles one way for a commercially made cup of Joe! What's more, I would hope that my circumstances are not so u

Incident: After grinding and brewing coffee in our 5-yr. old Cuisinart Burr Grind & Brew, Model DGB-700 Series, the warming plate remained on and overheated. The unit began emitting a dense smoke which smelled like burning plastic. The smoky smell stayed in the room for 4 to 6 hours after unplugging and removing the coffee pot from the premises. For more very similar reports of incidents with the Cuisinart Grind & Brew, go to cuisinartsucks.com. Cuisinart is aware of these incidents but has not recalled these machines. They claim that there is a safety turn off in the machine and that an actual fire could not have happened. IF YOU ARE USING ONE OF THESE MACHINES, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TURNING IT OFF IMMEDIATELY AFTER BREWING.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180802-AB0A1-2147386430. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Cuisinart DGB 700 (Cuisinart DGB 700 grind and brew coffee maker). Incident: My wife and I had originally purchased a Cusinart DGB 700 grind and brew coffee maker 2 yrs ago. With the original coffee maker approximately 6-8mo after purchase I heard a loud clicking sound after brewing a pot of coffee and noted profuse amounts of smoke and burning plastic smell coming from the machine. This was reported to Cuisinart, who replaced the machine and we sent it back to them for analysis. The replacement machine broke approx 1 yr later due to a faulty grinder. The re-replacement of said machine and a similar incident to the first machine this morning after brewing a pot of coffee. The hot plate portion of the machine was glowing red when I removed the pot of coffee from the machine. Increasing amount of smoke and burning plastic smell were noted as well. This seems to be a pattern of hot plate overheating with significant fire risk.
