7 confirmed failure reports · Early signal · Data confidence: Low

Early signal (7 confirmed reports) suggests shorter ownership before failure (typical 12 mo), but that is not enough data for a D or F grade.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180926-0581E-2147385331. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Matched catalog product: Apple iPhone 7. Source model text: MNQVZLL/A. Incident: My daughter [REDACTED] has an I phone 7 Plus rose colored 32 GB. She has had it for around a year. She has never had problems with it until recently. Over this past weekend she was talking on her phone, ended her call and put her phone in her purse, so she could enter her apartment. She placed the phone in her purse with only her wallet also in there. It is a light wallet and nothing protruding from it. After she entered her apartment she pulled out her phone and went to press the home button and there was a message that read: unable to use Touch ID thumbprint. She also looked closely and saw there was a tiny crack on the home button, but no cracks anywhere else. The only issue up to this point she had been having was that the home button had seemed warmer than normal. Anyway, she switched the phone so that she could use it without the use of the home button. She called and told me there was a tiny crack but nothing else. Yesterday she called me to say not only was the phone hot, it burned her inner arm in the shape of the home button. She had taken a nap and the phone was next to her. Her arm cant in co tact with the phone and burned her only where the home button was located. Immediately she called me and sent me pics. She called [REDACTED], our provider, and they told her she should not just use insurance or have the home button replaced but instead should contact Apple since there was an injury. She called Apple spoke to a lady who put her in contact with a man named [RE

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20161103-D3A87-2147411452. Matched catalog product: Apple iPhone 7. Source model text: iPhone 7, A1778. Incident: I purchased an Apple iPhone 7 in brushed black on September 27th 2016 (Model # MN9H2LL/A) using AT&T as the carrier. I activated the phone soon after receiving it; approximately October 1st. Within the first week, the phone while not in use, became extremely hot to the touch. The phone temporarily stopped working, most likely due to an internal sensor to preserve itself.

Incident: I purchased an iPhone 7 plus on 11/18/2016 and in the last month I have gone through three charging cables. Apple brand cables at $21 with apple brand charger. The phone is burning a connection and burnt it so bad it cant make a connection to charge the phone. I've contacted apple and nothing has been done. Can't duplicate problem is what I'm told witch is a lie. They keep trying to get me to buy apple care. I've also contacted sprint with no help there as well. as its only three months old I should not have to send it in for repair but have the phone swapped with a new one.

Source model text: iPhone 7 Plus. Incident: My daughter plugged her iPhone cord into her iPhone7 Plus to charge. After 20 minutes of charging, she went to unplug her phone and the connector and cord at the phone sparked, got hot, burned her finger and had a small flame. After unplugging the phone from the cord the cord was still smoldering. At which point she unplugged the outlet strip from the wall. Her apple charger was plugged into the outlet strip. We went to the Apple store with the phone, charger and cord. They ran a test on the phone and said the phone is not defective and would not replace it. We elected to escalate the issue with Apple Corporate and are waiting for their response.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190115-534CE-2147383242. Matched catalog product: Apple iPhone 7. Incident: I received a brand new Apple iPhone 7 as a gift in December 2017. It was activated a few months later, and not long after that I started to experience burning, itching, aching pains in my forearms whenever I would hold and use this phone. If I put this phone in my pants pocket, it would cause a localized burning, itching aching pain on my leg. If the phone was turned off or set to "Airplane" mode the pains would cease to occur. Other times if I had been holding the phone for too long, the pain would linger for days after.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180617-0285C-2147387333. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Apple iPhone 7 (Iphone 7 Black, Bought in September 2016). Incident: Last Friday Morning around 7:30am PST, my iphone 7 was all sudden explored on my couch. It was shaking for about 30 seconds with a large amount of chemical smoke coming out. (I have attached all the photos for your reference). Fortunately, none of the family members were injured at this point. But we were all shocked by the incident. I ran to the apple store twice and was told that they could do nothing for me only if I left the damaged phone to them and they will give me a replaced iphone 7. I would be okay with that if my new couch wasn't also burned with this big hole in the middle due to the incident and it cost $1700+Tax+ Transportation Fee. I changed my mind and requested them to return the damaged the phone back to me. After I went home, I did more research and found that I am not the only victim, some people had experienced even worse situations, and Apple has not done anything to them, and all that they are trying to do is the put the blame on the users. Here are some links: [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] You can actually find more. I am surprised that after so many bad incidences, iPhone Product still has a big problem and they never admitted that this is their phone's problem, and never try to apologize to the people who have been suffered through the incident, no recall, no improvement etc. I am wondering if you can help step in and take a look at the damaged phone to see why this is happening? if their iPhone 7 are not safe enough for the customers to use, they should not be selling them and an immediate recall is needed. And at least compensate an
