Reports

Water Intrusion / Seal Failure

sunroof seal, B pillar airbag, side window airbag

The sunroof seal allows water to leak into the car, particularly around the B pillar airbag and side window airbag areas. The water intrusion could damage the airbags, causing them to deploy unexpectedly or fail to deploy in a collision. BMW reportedly has an internal document acknowledging the defective seal but refuses to cover repair costs for vehicles beyond 50,000 miles warranty. A $200 diagnostic fee is required by the dealership, with additional repair costs not covered even if the defective part is confirmed as the cause.

Spontaneous Structural Failure

panoramic moonroof, interior mesh roof cover

While driving under normal conditions with no external impact or identifiable cause, the panoramic moonroof shattered explosively with a loud bang resembling a gunshot. Glass fragments dispersed across the roof area and portions of the panel collapsed inward into the interior mesh roof cover. No vehicle warning was triggered prior to the failure. The dealer was unable to reproduce the issue and denied it as a warranty claim.
