Incident: On December 2, 2015, I bought a microwave (Kenmore Elite, model No.: 790.80373310 and serial number: KG54261192). When everyone in my house was sleeping on November 11, 2016 (after 11 months of using this machine), we were woken up due to smell of burning, and then we found out this machine was smoking and burned automatically. Fortunately, we controlled this unsafe situation. Afterward, we called the Sears Home Services for repair. On November 17, 2016, two technicians from the Sears Home Services came to my house and checked this machine with comments No power to magfound burned main bd and wire harness-all phy helper d2c. Therefore, I would like to report a safety concern for fire hazard.

Incident: My Kenmore Elite Electric Range Slide-in model (Model No. 790.41023801 & Serial No. NF94819026) had an electrical fire inside of it appproximately 20-25 minutes after it was turned off. The fire was contained and remained inside the oven b/c we were at home and present when there was a popping noise and we smelled the electrical fire. We turned the breaker off and the fire ceased. However, black smoke billowed out of it for about 3 minutes. There was no damage to anything other than the range. It is worth noting that this is a lemon replacement from Sears and the first Kenmore Elite Electric Slide-in (a model No. 790.4670) that we had was tripping the breaker and burned the motherboard on the back of the range.

Incident: Purchased an electric range, floor model from Sears in Seabrook NH about 5 years ago. The smooth top range doesn't match the recall model and serial numbers listed here http://www.cpsc.gov/en/recalls/2009/frigidaire-and-kenmore-smoothtop-electric-ranges-recalled-due-to-fire-hazard/ but it is having the same problems. The burners will turn up to high on their own and recently will not turn off. We have had to unplug it from the wall. I called Kenmore and was basically told if the serial number and model numbers don't match I will have to pay for the repair. My model number is: 790.94332700 and serial number is: VF73553723, which are slightly different than what was listed in this recall. I have the original receipt as well.

Incident: Kenmore Electric Range, model 790.98053004 purchased from Sears about two years ago. The rack in the bottom oven is not sturdy enough. When roasting something heavy such as a turkey or ham, the rack slips out of the track on one side causing the pan and contents to fall to the bottom of the oven at an angle. This is because the rack sags in the middle due to the weight, pulling the rack out of the track. The weight is not excessive. The rack should be able to handle a 10 pound turkey! The rack slips especially when sliding it out to check the cooking progress or to baste etc. Very dangerous since the hot contents of the pan spill and splash all over the oven possibly starting a fire and burning the person. This has occurred on Dec. 24, 2014 and several times previously.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20110415-B4BC7-2147480146. Matched catalog product: Kenmore 790.92303010. Source model text: 790.96614406. Incident: The oven on our electric range had been preheating for approximately 5 minutes when flames began shooting from the vents at the back and top of the control panel. The flames went up the wall nearly to the vent hood a distance of about 12 inches. The flames lasted for about 60 seconds until something inside the control panel popped and then they went out. It scorched the tile behind the range and could have easily set the house on fire. There was nothing in the oven and nothing on top of the stove to catch fire. The source of the fire was inside of the control panel. I have tried to get both Kenmore the company we bought it from and Frigidaire the company that manufactured it to come out and look for the cause of the fire. Neither company cares enough to come look at this product. I removed the rear cover to take pictures of the source of the fire. It appears that 2 relays actually came unsoldered from the circuit board and fell off. One landed on a wiring harness just below the control board and one fell down inside the range.

Incident: The consumer says she used the self cleaning feature and now the outside top of her oven door is browned. The consumer is concerned that the oven may pose a fire hazard. She says that she has never used the self cleaning feature before. The consumer contacted the retailer who offered to send out a service technician for a fee. The consumer says it may have been on self cleaning mode for about 2 hours. The consumer says the vent in the back of the stove was not venting well and caused puddles on the top of her stove due to poor condensation inside the oven. This occured while the product was under warranty so it got repaired. The consumer says also that when she first received the oven she hit the self cleaning feature by mistake, while she had food in the oven. She pressed off and it would not go off. She contacted the manufacturer who took her thru a process to get the self cleaning mode off. The consumer says that there should not be a self cleaning button next to the off button. The consumer is not happy that no one is willing to help her. She just got a new floor installed in her kitchen, as well as a new dishwasher and the browning of the oven door mars the newer look of the kitchen.

Incident: The consumer says the left front burner, will make an eletrical zapping noise. The left front burner turns bright red to its highest and hottest power no matter what number the dial is turned to. The dial is on low of #2 the burner will act as if the dial has been turned to high or #8. It is a fire hazard and a major safety hazard to myself and young children. Sometimes it will act as if it is working right on a number setting and in the middle of cooking the burner will suddently turn "red hot" as if it has been turned to high. Also the metal body on the top of the range around and between the burners will contract and expand as the range top gets hot. The metal is very thin and not durable to hold its shape while cooking many things at once. She sees the electrical light on the back of her stove reflecting on the ceramic. The burner has had this problem for a couple of years. The consumer contacted the manufacturer who told her the unit was not on recall. She says the electrical buzzing noise occurs everytime the unit is turned on and off. She also says the oven door handle has fallen off several times.

Incident: This incident has happened at least 15 times over the course of the last year. Two large front burners will increase to high temperature even when set on another temperature. These same two burners will not turn off when we turn the knob off. We try turning it off and on back and forth and they will not turn off. The only remedy is to cut power via the circuit breaker. Even then sometimes when we turn the circuit breaker back on the elements are still on. So we have to wait a while sometimes. This has happened numerous times and we have burned food and nearly ruined some of our pots and pans. It is a VERY serious fire hazard that jeopardizes my household. Now I am forced to fix it due to the item being reported on a home inspection and the buyers not wanting to inherit a seriously defective stove. Kenmore/Sears should recall and fix this item for free as many people have the same issue.

Incident: Serious fire/burn hazard with our Kenmore Elite Range Model 790.9031, black, with convection and dual "simmer select" burner. We were noticing issues with the simmer/select burner on the back left corner of the range maintaining heat after dropping it down to level 2. In the last week, while cooking, on level 6, the burner suddenly gets extremely hot and the coils turn the brightest orange i have ever seen a burner turn. This happened once last week, so we let it cool and plugged and unplugged the coil. This morning, as I was cooking pancakes, it suddenly heated up extremely fast - so fast that the batter went from wet to a black pancake in less than 15 seconds on level 6. Had I not ripped the pan off the burner and the pancakes immediately off the pan, we would have had a fire. It was extremely dangerous. The coil looked like the sun it was so hot. The range is less than four years old (purchased 4/23/2012) and I saw a consumer complaint about this exact issue reported in May of 2015.

Incident: The submitter said she turned on the oven to the bake setting and she put the temperature to 350 degrees. The submitter said she put a chicken in a glass baking dish and placed it into the oven. She also put the timer to 40 minutes. Approximately 20 minutes later, the submitter smelled a burn odor and while she was walking downstairs the fire alarm went off. The submitter noticed smoke coming from inside the oven and she noticed that the oven was extremely hot to the touch. The submitter believes the temperature of the oven was a lot higher than 350 degrees. The submitter pushed the "Off" but the oven failed to shut off. The submitter then opened the oven and removed the baking dish with the chicken. The submitter indicated that the bottom heating element inside the oven was extremely bright orange. The submitter said the baking dish was extremely hot to the touch and the bottom of the dish turned black. The submitter said about 45 seconds after she put the baking dish down it exploded into the pieces. The submitter said the glass cut her on the back of her left leg. She did not seek medical attention. The submitter's husband told her to cut the circuit breaker and when she did the range turned off.
