Incident: I had 3 sleeping babies, 2 men working on our basement, and I was baking with my other child. I Turned my oven on to preheat it. Something "popped" and started on fire from the electrical pane on the back of the range. Samsung has given me the run around for over a week, saying someone will come fix it but without anyone every reaching out or showing up. Many other owners of this oven have the same complaint, I would like to work towards a recall of these ovens, due to the life threatening defect!!

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170602-31441-2147399973. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Samsung FTQ353IWUX. Source model text: FTQ353IWUX/XAA. Incident: My wife was warming up pizza in the Samsung electric oven. She heard an electrical popping noise after the oven had been on for about 10 min. Then she heard a zapping sound like bug zapper and upon further inspection saw the back of the range behind the control panel, next to the wall glowing orange and smoking profusely. She immediately turned off the oven and grabbed the fire extinguisher and discharged it down the back of the range which eliminated the hazard. I then went and turned off the circuit to the unit.

Incident: I set my range to preheat. About 2-4 minutes into the preheat I heard a loud pop or crack coming from the location of the range. When I went to investigate I seen an orange glow coming from behind the stove and the control panel lights flickered for a few seconds. I then realized the stove was on fire internally. I pulled the stove out quickly and pulled the electrical cord out from the wall. I seen flames inside an attempted to put them out. They finally went out (Thankfully) so the entire damage was contained behind the control panel and internally behind all metal pieces. There was no indication of any issues or problems prior to this incident and this stove had been used every day since purchase without incident. Nothing was on or inside the stove at the time of incident.

There have been MANY complaints on Amazon with the same issue! There needs to be a recall before someone dies in a house fire caused by this product! Here are some of the reviews...

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170913-2926D-2147397478. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Samsung FTQ353IWUX. Incident: We were using the stove and oven preparing dinner when smoke and flames and popping sounds arose from the back of the range. My husband quickly pulled the range away from the wall and unplugged it, as the smoke and unmistakable smell of an electrical fire spread through the house. An inspection of the rear of the range revealed several burned areas--wires leading to the element, light, and elsewhere--as well as melted plastic connectors. While we don't leave the stove unattended while in use, it is not unusual for us to go into the yard while something is in the oven. Thankfully this was not the case Monday evening as we would likely have been dealing with a house fire.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20171229-36560-2147394178. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Samsung FTQ353IWUX. Incident: We have a stainless & black Samsung model #FTQ353IWUX conduction ceramic cook top & self/steam cleaning convection oven which we bought in 2010. The back of the digital control panel popped & caught fire while heating a frozen pizza. The fire was rolling out the back of the stove and up on to the cabinets above, if we had not been right there when it happened, it could have resulted in a much larger fire. The control panel quit operating once it caught fire but the oven did not. The door had initially locked shut when I tried to pull the stove out from between the cabinets, but it eventually let me open the door (which was very hot) so I could pull it out, put out the fire (I had to blow it out since I did not have an extinguisher handy), and unplug the power cord. I took the back panel off of the back of the control panel and saw that a power relay (Tyco Electronics T9ASID22-12 Porter Brumfield) on the back of the circuit panel marked "Broil" had the side blown out of it and melted & caught fire.

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 16, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20250103-95644-2147334164. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Samsung FTQ353IWUX (Samsung Electric Convection Range). Incident: The Samsung oven was preheating and we smelled a burning/smoking smell from the other room. I came to the kitchen and determined that the smoky, burning smell was coming from the oven. It smelled like burning plastic or electrical fire. I tried to turn off the oven but the oven would not turn off. All the little red lights at the top were on. I called for help and we tried to move the oven away from the wall to unplug it but it was taking too long because the oven was heavy. My family member called 911 and the dispatcher sent the fire department. In the mean time, I turned off the circuit breaker and then the fire department came. They took a look at the smoking oven and said that it was an electrical fire from the oven and that we shouldn't use it again and get a new one. The wiring to the house is new as of summer 2023 and passed two inspections.
