Incident: Kenmore Elite model # 795.77543600, Lights won't shut off when the door is closed. Caused light to turn black/burning smell/light case melted/ causing excessive heat inside frig thus spoiling food and causing in door ice maker issues. I have no lights in frig so I can use the frig for now but I am concerned that a board may still me causing overheating issues. I called 1-800-4-MY-HOME and I got nothing from them. They said there was no recall and they did not know about my problem which I find hard to believe with all of the complaints over the past 3 years. Sears wanted to charge me $99 to send someone to my house and I'm not paying for a know fire hazard. By the looks of this post Sears has known for at least over 3 years that this is a problem and has done nothing but give the run around. please see sears forum https://community.sears.com/Discussions/Single_question_detail/All/Allquestions/I-had-light-bulbs-burning-nonstop-in-my-Kenmore-Elite-Trio-refrigerator--I-called-Sears-two-days-ago-and-was-told-that-it-would-take-7-to-10-business-days-for-the-part-to-come-in--I-wonder-what-part-they-were-referring-to-as-the-entire-ubulb-unit-has-be

Source model text: 79577563600. [REDACTED] stated I would have to pay a service charge just for a technican to come out to see if my refrigerator is involved in a recall. I commented that Sears has manufactured a product that is unsafe; the defect in these refrigerators can cause a fire and injure/kill someone. I asked does Sears not "care about its customers". [REDACTED] replied Sears is a corporation; it doesn't have feelings. Sears is not going to do anything about this problem unless it is mandated to. I urge everyone affected to report this unsafe product.

Incident: As I was getting ready to leave for vacation I noticed an odor of burning plastic when I opened my refrigerator. The food on the top shelf was not cold. The light housing was melted and the bulb sockets were discolored and burnt. In fact there are burn marks along the top. My husband attempted to remove the plastic housing and he finally did although the plastic had melted to the top of the frig. The switch that recognizes the door as being closed was not functioning, so the light was not going off. We loosened the bulbs to avoid additional heat. This is definitely a fire hazard! When I returned from vacation, I called Sears service center. They were no help. In fact they told me to go to the store. I took the melted plastic with me to the store and asked if there might be a recall. They knew nothing and could do nothing and suggested I call the service center. I pointed out that this had already been done. They suggested I go to the Sears parts store. I went there carrying the melted part and they were also not much help. They referred me to the same place I called before.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20151201-235EF-2147426231. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Kenmore 795.77563600. Incident: Smelled something hot in my kitchen area and found that the lights in the refrigerator would not shut off. I double checked to make sure the doors were closed completely but the lights were still on. When I looked in the refrigerator I could see that the light housing cover was melted and the light ballast were discolored. I removed the melted cover and lights from the fridge. I later found that this is a known issue with these refrigerator and part of a class action lawsuit in 2012. I had Sears Repair come to the house and they confirmed this was part of the previously identified problem but they are no longer fixing it as part of the settlement according to his Service Flash on his computer and wanted $500 now to fix it. I should have been covered by Sears SF46-515R4 but he says that it shows on his computer but is grayed out so he can not access it. There is multiple reports of this same problem on the web. I'm glad I was home at the time and it didn't cause any further damage or spread beyond the refrigerator.

When I looked at the light cover it was melted. After one week the lights come on only intermittently. I am afraid they will stay on again and maybe cause a complete meltdown and fire. This refridgerator is a $2000 +/- unit and should not have these issues. It is supposed to be top-of -the-line, not to mention the obvious safety issue.

Incident: Upon opening the refrigerator I realized that the light bulbs were both off. When I went to remove the plastic cover I noticed that it was very warm to the touch, but was able to remove it. I reached to remove the bulbs in order to inspect them and my hand grazed the metal backing plate of the assembly and was subsequently burned. The only way to ensure that the assembly does not produce an excessive amount of heat is to remove the bulbs and interrupt the circuit. The overheating was severe enough to discolor the white, plastic bulb sockets. Kenmore model 795.77563600. After a series of phone calls and transfers to everyone from Sears, to Kenmore, to LG, to third parties, I got nowhere and no one would accept liability or send me replacement parts.

Incident: My Sears Kenmore Elite Refrigerator, model # 795.77563600 is a fire hazard and after reading online this is a widespread issue and one Sears is not standing behind. What happens is the lights inside the unit remain on even when the doors of the refrigerator are closed. They heat up and start to melt the plastic cover, ruin the food, and are even hot enough to melt the insulated protection over the lights. There is a distinct burning smell and even smoke was coming from the light fixture itself when I opened the doors. It is so hot it was a matter of time before I lost all my food and the unit caught fire.

Incident: On Christmas Eve 2012..Our Kenmore Trio Refrigerator started a near fire in our home! The lights inside the fridge got so hot they started to smoke and melt all the plastic surrounding the unit....even with the doors closed. If I had not been home from work our house would have burned down for sure! The fridge got so hot it was like opening an oven and it was SMOKING and smoldering and melted all the plastic in the light fixture! The technician is here now saying this happens in 1 out of every 10 refrigerators of this model! I do not like those odds!!! That is a 10% chance of your house catching on fire!!!!! Why isnt Sears being pro-active on this! No one notified us of this problem and I registered this product when we bought it! Isnt that the purpose of registering a productso that you are notified of any recalls?????

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20210917-0A367-2147360483. Severity: Injury, First Aid Received by Non-Medical Professional. Product: Kenmore 795.77563600 (Kenmore Refrigerator Model No. 795.77563600 UPC 3850JD8061A). Incident: I would like to report a fire hazard with our Kenmore Refrigerator Model No. 795.77563600 (see attached data plate). Despite contacting American Home Shield and notifying them of the fire hazard (see attached photos) the night that it nearly caught on fire (3 September 2021), our refrigerator was not even assessed by a technician until yesterday (17 September 2021) and, even more troubling, was that it was not until I began doing my own independent research that I was made aware of the historical fire hazard this model of refrigerator presents. Despite American Home Shields insistence that this fault can be repaired, after reading other consumers issues, we do not feel that it is wise or safe to use a refrigerator that presents a known fire hazard. I would ask that you work with the appropriate vendors/agencies to alert others and investigate the matter for the sake of the safety of other consumers who might not be so lucky as to catch their refrigerator arcing and smoking before it bursts into flames. The light case was so hot that when our son tried to remove it WITH heavy duty mechanics gloves, the heat burned through the leather on the glove and burnt his finger.
