Vehicle Information: * VIN: [XXX] * Year/Model: 2022 Honda CR-V EX I brought my vehicle to an authorized Honda Service Center on 09/23/2026, where the Service Manager informed me that my vehicle's specific VIN is not actively flagged for the [XXX] recall in their system. As a result, they refused to perform the required gearbox spring replacement and lubrication remedy free of charge. Because this is a known, verified manufacturing flaw involving the annealing process and excessive spring preload of the Hitachi Astemo steering gearboxes, the fact that my VIN was omitted from the initial campaign does not absolve American Honda of its liability to repair a dangerous vehicle defect. Driving this vehicle is a severe hazard to myself and others on the road. I request that American Honda immediately issue a corporate goodwill authorization to my local dealer to replace or repair the steering gearbox assembly according to the recall technical service bulletin specifications. Please contact me within 3 business days to establish a case number and coordinate the scheduling of this vital safety repair. My wife was unloading bags of groceries from the back of the vehicle. I had opened the liftgate once I pulled into the garage. One of the bags she grabbed was double bagged but one came off and went under the rear bumper. I got to the back of the car where she was at and I asked her what was the bag under the car, assuming it still had items in it. She explained it had came off the bag in her hand and she reached down to grab it. When she got it I heard the noise from the liftgate that a closure was activated via her getting the bag from under the car. It was coming down fairly quick. I told her loudly to move back, the liftgate was closing. When she did she lost her balance. She rotated around and fell in the driveway, skinning her knees and her hands and ended up on her back wondering what happened. Thankfully she did not hit her head. She is [XXX] and coordination is not a strong suit for either of us. I am [XXX]. A similar event happened to me when I had to reach something deeper into the back of the car and my foot went too far underneath the rear, activating the liftgate closure. I was able to move back without issue... INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Brake system failure

STEERING,SUSPENSION,SERVICE BRAKES

While steering and turning, the wheel continuously feels sticky and there is a clicking and squeaking sound when I begin to turn the wheel. It is available to inspect. This vehicle does not feel safe. I have had to turn the wheel with more effort when changing lanes on the highway causing overcorrection and the brake also slipped when I was braking before turning to get onto a major street. I have taken it to Firestone to get the brakes checked and for routine oil maintenance and a leak in the windshield reservoir. After the oil change, a Firestone service tech recommended maintenance and repairs including an alignment, new brake pads and rotors, so I took it back to Enterprise, the car dealership where I bought this vehicle on December 5, 2024. Enterprise reluctantly took it back to their service department and checked the vehicle's steering and brakes, denying there was anything wrong with either. The manager at Enterprise stated that the sound I was hearing was normal wear and tear on the vehicle but I am still hearing the clicking and squeaking sound and when I turn the wheel it still feels sticky. There have been no warning lights flashing on the dash, but again, the wheel continuously feels sticky, and I have to overcorrect my turns. There is also a clicking and squeaking sound when I turn the wheel.

I purchased a brand new Honda CRV 2022 ,VIN [XXX] , on [XXX] in Herson's Honda Rockville Dealership, Maryland. Shortly after the purchase the navigation system started to malfunction creating putting me in a danger on the road. After 10 minutes of driving the map goes blurred then screen gets saturated, the map gets smeared. It creates unsafe driving experience. I have addressed this issue to the Honda service center several times in 2022 and 2023 separately and during each routine oil change. There was no successful solution so far. I feel very unsafe and discouraged to drive this car with this ongoing issue. Specially with the kids in the car. I had several situations of losing the control of direction while on the highway due to map getting unclear. In March and April 2024 I reached out to American Honda, they created a case, sent me a survey, sent me to the service center but did not provide any solution. There was no written solution by the side of American Honda, only phone calls advising this is a software issue with Apple and Android and told me to wait for the software update. It has been two years, no solution. This problem substantially impairs the car's value or use. I have only driven it 17,000.00 miles since I don't feel safe driving long distances in it. VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11706894

On Wednesday, November 26, 2025, I took my 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid to the dealership for a routine oil change. The service team told me that all systems showed the vehicle was in good condition. They advised me to return for my next oil change and regular maintenance. I did not drive anywhere on Thursday, November 27, which was Thanksgiving Day. On Friday, November 28, while driving to work on the highway, the engine warning light turned on and my car began to slow down. Pressing the accelerator did not help—the vehicle would not speed up and lost power while I was driving on the highway. This was a very stressful and unsafe situation. I had to pull over onto the shoulder with a line of cars behind me. My car was towed to the dealership. The dealership said they could not find anything wrong with it. However, I experienced a clear and serious problem. Not only did I miss work, but I also had to pay $238.95 for the towing service. After researching, I found there was a recall issued on December 18, 2023, for a fuel pump failure that can cause the engine to stall while driving, which increases the risk of a crash. However, this recall did not include the 2022 model year, which is the year of my vehicle. The recall describes exactly what happened to me. Honda should include the 2022 CR-V Hybrid in the recall and therefore; replace the fuel pump module at no cost to help ensure everyone’s safety.

LANE DEPARTURE

47 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11740776

The issue involves the driver’s-side blind spot monitoring system. In my experience, the system does not recognize or alert me to vehicles approaching from behind in the adjacent lane until they are nearly even with the driver’s door. In many situations, the blind spot warning light does not illuminate while a vehicle is occupying what most drivers would reasonably consider the blind spot area. Instead, the alert often appears only after the vehicle is already alongside my vehicle. This creates a significant safety concern. The purpose of a blind spot monitoring system is to provide advance warning of vehicles approaching from behind before a lane change is initiated. When the system does not recognize a vehicle until it is already beside the driver’s door, the warning is delayed to the point that it provides limited practical value in helping prevent a collision. I have discussed this concern with Honda dealership personnel and have been advised that the system is operating as designed and that there is no repair, adjustment, or calibration available to improve its performance. While I appreciate their efforts, I find it concerning that a safety-related feature may be functioning exactly as intended while still failing to provide what I believe is adequate advance warning for drivers. As a driver, I would expect the system to provide earlier notification when another vehicle is occupying the adjacent lane and approaching from the rear.

The contact owns a 2022 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 50-60 MPH, the check engine warning light flashed and several unknown warning lights illuminated, and the vehicle went into LIMP Mode, lost motive power, and failed to properly accelerate. The contact restarted the vehicle; however, the vehicle remained in LIMP Mode. The contact exited the interstate, left the vehicle in a parking lot, and had the vehicle towed to a dealer the following day. The failure was a recurring failure. The contact stated the vehicle had been inspected by two independent mechanics and two Honda dealers and was currently located at a third Honda dealer awaiting a diagnostic test. The first independent mechanic was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The first dealer diagnosed the vehicle with an inoperable spark plug and ignition coil in cylinder #1. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The second independent mechanic replaced all the spark plugs and ignition coils; however, the failure persisted. The second dealer diagnosed the vehicle with head gasket failure and determined that the timing belt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to a third Honda dealer but it was not yet diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened; however, the contact stated that no response had been received. The failure mileage was 95,000.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

42 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11712624

I had driven may a mile and was turning right onto a street. As soon as I turned onto the street my car just stopped and would not move. I had no power -- I put my gas pedal all the way down and it would only inch along. I was so scared that I would get rear ended. I immediately put on my flashers and prayed no one would hit me. I finally inched my way into the grass. I kept trying to get power to my car but it would not get any power. I sat there for about a half hour and kept trying. I finally got enough power to be able to turn around and get back home. The next morning I went to start my car and it was a very very rough start to get it started. I decided then to take it to the Honda dealer. On my way to the Honda dealer, my car did the "lose power" again. I had to sit there for about 15 minutes before I finally had enough power. I "inched" my way to the dealer. They called and said it was the fuel injectors and that they needed to be replaced. My car is a 2022 with 56,000 miles on it. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN with that low of mileage. Honda has said this was not a covered repair even though I had no power to my vehicle. I did research and have found that there is a definite issue with the 2022 Honda CRV fuel injectors but they only have covered certain VIN numbers. My VIN number is not in that replacement -- which I don't understand. This should be a recall on ALL Honda 2022 CRV's. This is a very expensive repair and I feel Honda should cover the replacement of these fuel injectors.

Steering failure

STEERING

31 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11663500

I am writing to formally report a concerning issue I’ve experienced with my vehicle's power steering system. The steering intermittently "sticks" or resists turning, requiring slight but deliberate manual force to free it while driving. This occurs unexpectedly and is especially noticeable when taking a slight curve at a lower-speed. The sticking sensation feels as if the steering wheel momentarily locks in place or becomes unusually resistant, which can compromise driver control and response time. While the resistance is not extreme, it is persistent and potentially hazardous, particularly in situations that require quick or precise steering input to avoid obstacles or maintain lane position. This issue raises significant safety concerns, and I believe it may indicate a defect in the power steering system—whether mechanical, electronic, or software-related. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter, as even minor delays or inconsistencies in steering performance could increase the risk of an accident. I have talked with a couple of local dealerships who acknowledge that they have seen this issue in the newer CR-Vs but no recalls have been issued. Vehicle Details: Make/Model: Honda CR-V Year: 2022 VIN: [XXX] Vehicle has never been involved in any wrecks or accidents. I would appreciate acknowledgment of this complaint and any information regarding known investigations, recalls, or technical service bulletins related to this issue. Thank you for your attention to this serious matter. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Powertrain / transmission failure

POWER TRAIN

46 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11751223

On or about April 17, 2026, while driving my 2022 Honda CR-V equipped with the 1.5L turbocharged engine (approximately 53,890 miles), I experienced a sudden loss of engine power and performance. There were no warning lights, warning messages, or other symptoms prior to the incident. The first indication of a problem occurred during the failure itself. Diagnostic testing later identified DTC P0299 (turbocharger underboost). The vehicle was transported to an authorized Honda dealership (Stokes Honda North), where technicians diagnosed a catastrophic turbocharger failure. During their inspection, they determined that metal from the failed turbocharger had contaminated the engine and recommended complete engine replacement. The sudden loss of engine power created a significant safety concern because the vehicle could not accelerate normally in traffic. A loss of power while merging onto a highway, crossing an intersection, or attempting to avoid another vehicle could increase the risk of a collision. The failure was confirmed by the authorized Honda dealership. The vehicle was also inspected by American Honda as part of its warranty review. Although Honda denied warranty coverage, I am submitting this complaint to report what I believe is a potential safety-related failure involving the turbocharger and resulting engine damage. The vehicle remains available for inspection if requested. I respectfully ask NHTSA to determine whether similar failures are occurring in other 2022 Honda CR-V vehicles equipped with the 1.5L turbocharged engine and whether further investigation is warranted.

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11470940

I purchased a new Honda CR-V EXL AWD in Jan 2022 and it has only 1971 miles. Now, the transmission is completely dead with these miles. The dealership informed me that this requires a new transmission which is covered under Honda warranty. The strange thing is that I didn't receive any warning or notification in my dashboard that transmission is getting bad/worse. Luckily, the car was stopped on a residential county road but I can't imagine if the power is getting dropped and stopped on the freeway without any warning. This is one of the biggest safety concerns and this would be a life threatening incident. I have already owned a Honda civic in the past and never had any issue, but I was highly disappointed with this incident and lost confidence with Honda. Please refund my money back :-( What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request ? Ans: Transmission failed. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Ans: The transmission failed without any warning and the vehicle stopped completely on the road, which is a life threatening issue, if that happens on the freeway/highways. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Ans: UNKNOWN Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Ans: This is a brand new vehicle which was bought in Jan 2022 and has 1971 miles on it. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Ans: No warning or indications.

Electrical system failure

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

46 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11731742

Subject: Safety Concern: Electronic System/BCM Failure – 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid Vehicle Information: Year/Make/Model: 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid VIN: [XXX] ] Approximate Mileage: [45,200] Component: Electrical System / Body Control Module (BCM) Description of Incident: On [04/13/2026], my vehicle experienced a sudden and total failure of the Body Control Module (BCM). The vehicle’s security alarm began triggered randomly and could not be silenced or deactivated. Simultaneously, the key fobs became completely unresponsive, preventing me from locking, unlocking, or disarming the vehicle. Upon entering, the dashboard displayed a "Christmas Tree" effect with all warning lights illuminated (ABS, Brake, TPMS, etc.) accompanied by a persistent audible beep. Safety Risk: This failure creates a significant safety hazard. Because the key fob and locking systems failed, I was unable to secure the vehicle. Furthermore, the loss of communication between the BCM and other safety modules (like ABS and Traction Control) puts the driver at risk of losing critical safety features while in motion. Prior History: This issue is identical to the symptoms found in NHTSA Recall 20V771 (affecting 2018–2020 Honda models). It appears the defect persists in the 2022 CR-V Hybrid model year, yet no recall has been issued for this specific VIN range. Requested Action: I am requesting that NHTSA investigate the 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid for BCM-related electrical failures to determine if a safety recall is necessary to prevent further incidents of driver stranding and safety system malfunctions. My 2022 Honda CR-V experiences the "sticky steering" defect that has been widely reported and is currently under NHTSA investigation (EA23003). While driving at highway speeds, the steering wheel intermittently locks, requiring increased effort to move the wheel. When the steering finally releases, it often results in overcorrection, creating a dangerous safety hazard. I previously assumed that the issue was lane keeping assist but after my last honda service i started getting noise when turning the wheel. It's the exact same noise that happens in the honda civic steering pinion where the wormgear rubs against the plastic with insufficient grease as shown in this video [XXX] My safety is not put at risk because i have learned to expect the steering locking and compensate for it but it will only get worse over time. The problem was confirmed by the dealer but their solution is to replace the rack and pinion but the reports online say that the issue comes back because the part itself has the defect from the factory, the same as with the other 1.7m recalled honda vehicles with the same problem. There was no warning message and there still isn't any message on the vehicle saying that the rack has failed, it just locks intermittently and makes the clicking noise because of the insufficient grease. As i previously mentioned, the locking has been happening for quite some time but only after I was told that the noise was coming from the "failed" rack i found the sticky steering issues which then got me to disable all steering assist and sure enough the steering still sticks. I tried uploading videos but it won't allow me to. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I was in a dedicated lane to make a left turn. There was no vehicle in front of me and no pedestrians in the crosswalk. I was coasting to the light at about 20mph or less as I could see that it was red and because I am familiar with the intersection , I knew it would not turn green immediately. At 2 to 3 car lengths back from where I was going to stop all of a sudden the car jolted to a stop. The car immediately shut down (quit running). There was no car behind me or I am sure my car would have been rear ended. I got out of the car to see if there was something under it or if I could see if something had fallen off the underside of the car. I tried to restart the car but it would not start. By that time there were 2 cars behind me waiting to turn. I got out of the car and went back to the nearest car and told the driver she needed to go around my car. I got back into my car and tried to restart it and it started. I had absolutely no warning before this happened. I did not take the car for an inspection but I did call the salesman (as soon as I could). He said it might be because of the forward collision system and suggested that I could turn it off. He said that the system is very sensitive and even a leaf might set it off. Even though it was in October, it was not a windy day and most trees in my area had not started losing their leaves. I bought this car because of the safety equipment as I am [XXX] and in good health, but I am a practical person. I did tell the salesman that if there is another incident that I would be coming in for an inspection. I have been anxious about this and have learned others have had this problem. We purchased this vehicle as a Honda Certified Pre-Owned vehicle. I have included a copy of the 182-Point Inspection Checklist that I received when I/we purchased the vehicle. The issue is the weatherstripping on both sides of the middle row. The material does not fit the area and causes wind and weather to effect the interior of the vehivcle. We feel that this issue is a manufacturer defect and should have been detected/rectified during that 182-Point Inspection. My wife and myself are the only user of the vehicle and we never have a reason to sit in the middle row. Per chance, our daughter's dog was in the middle row and when I turned to check on him, I noticed that weatherstripping issue. Upon reaching home, I further noticed that the issue existed on both the passenger and driver side - middle row doors. I also found a Technical Information & Support Group bulletin addressed to "All Honda Service Managers/Advisors", "RE: Request for Parts: 2023-2024 Accord & CR-V Rear Door Weatherstrip". I realize this bulletin does not address my year vehicle but wanted to bring to light that this seems to be an issue that is prevalent on the CR-V. We notified the dealer who inspected and confirmed that the issue exists but were told that because the care is not longer under original warranty, the repair would cost us $600+. We have since notified American Honda USA under the extended warranty we purchased and feel that they are dragging their feet on this issue. I received a call from American Honda USA and agreed to a settlement to have the issue resolved at the dealer where we bought the vehicle for a total out-of-pocket to me of $200 + taxes. I was supposed to get a call from the dealer to schedule the repair but nothing. I contacted Honda America once again and am being told it is being looked into.

All warning notices started going off & continuously cycling through all warnings possible for everything. Vehicle suddenly lost propulsion. I was on local roadways without heavy traffic or high speeds but had this occurred on a freeway it could have caused a serious threat of injury or death to myself & other vehicles behind me (could cause multi vehicle crash). This has happened 4 times. This last incident is unresolved. The 1st time at 33,069 miles the dealership indicated vehicle had code P0303 cylinder #3 misfire, cylinder A/F test cylinder #1& #2 failed. Oil on dipstick had strong fuel smell. Replaced fouled spark plugs, oil & filter change. Incident #2 at 33,206 miles had cylinder #3 misfire code, cylinder #2 failed cylinder A/F test. Replaced all fuel injectors with new parts kit including gaskets, fuel tubes etc Incident#3 at 33,699 miles. Cylinder #3 code P0303. Swapped #1 & #3 coil packs and connected HDS laptop, watched Cylinder #3 have misfire counts, removed #3 coil & spark plug, installed pressure tester & inserted boroscope into #3 cylinder & watched coolant run down cylinder wall. Cylinder #3 head out of specification for straightness. Spec is 0.003 & head flatness measured 0.0032. Replaced cylinder head & all related gaskets, o-rings, bolts etc. Incident #4 dealership notified, vehicle needs to be towed to shop therefore no resolution at this time. Information I (owner) found online indicates 1.5L turbo engine design flaw leading to chronic & repeated gasket/cylinder failure issues for vehicles with this engine. Replacement with OEM parts will not resolve. [XXX] Several class-action lawsuits have been filed in the United states & Canada related to this engine/issue. The vehicle can be inspected & will share service repair records. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE,LANE DEPARTURE

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11472619

The car started sounding an alarm and flashing an idiotic warning message that says "Adaptive Cruise Control Problem". Yes it said "problem." It also flashed a message that said "BRAKE SYSTEM." I called the dealer and they instructed me how to turn off Adaptive Cruise Control, and it did NOT stop the alarm and the flashing messages. They told me it was ok to drive and to bring it in to the dealer. I did that. Had to get ride so I could leave the car. The alarm stopped on the way to the dealer. The next day they told me they could not find what was wrong with the car, but it was ok to drive, and it if happened again, take a video. If they didn't know what was wrong with the car, HOW DID THEY KNOW IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE? I picked up the car and a couple days later it did the same thing. Even turning the car off and cranking it back up would not make it stop. I did stop and take videos of the flashing messages, which are attached here, and also sent them to the dealer. I took the car in and they said they got the videos, and they would now be able to fix it. The next day they said come pick it up, but said they THOUGHT it needed the front radar/camera replaced but they did not have one. They said it would be July before they could get the part. But they continued to say it is safe to drive. Since then, it had done this several more times, and I took videos again. Those are attached as well. They called today and said it would be August before they could get the parts. I strongly suspect that they do not actually know what it wrong, and that they have not done any actual microelectronic or software troubleshooting, and they are just guessing that this part will fix it. I am now forced to drive a car that is questionably safe. I mean, when an alarm sounds and a warning light flashes that says "BRAKE SYSTEM" how can it be safe to drive?

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

17 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11706303

The most urgent issue with my vehicle is the automatic braking system. During several instances driving during the day and at night, my car has done what’s referred to as “phantom braking” where it detects something in the road, though the road is completely clear and open and the brakes engage and suddenly stop my car. It’s happened on occasions where it triggers the brakes lightly and it’s happened so intensely that my seat buckle has locked up throwing my head forward and my car comes to a near stop on the FREEWAY. It happens on regular roads as well, but the freeway is especially dangerous especially traveling at a higher rate of speed for the breaks to be engaged and rapidly slow my car down. I have been so fortunate that the times it has happened the people behind me had enough reaction time or there was no one behind me. This has happened on numerous occasions and for almost every incident it occurred I’ve had a witness (my parter at the time) they saw how jarring, intense and dangerous the braking was and how it happened out of nowhere. I brought this up to my dealership but they kept shooing me away saying that it’s not a problem and if I wanted to I could turn the automatic braking system off every single time I start my car (because that resets once your car is off and will be active the next time it’s in use) after an extreme incident on the freeway that almost got me into an accident (with a witness) I brought it to them again to which they told me my warranty was up and if I wanted to “check it out” for problems I would need to pay out of pocket and again recommended that I turn it off every time I start my vehicle. They said they wanted to see the problem themselves but it does not happen every drive. You have no idea when it is going to happen so it’s impossible to test with the intention of seeing for yourself. It’s completely random. I’ve also had electrical issues but the brake system is my priority.

STEERING,POWER TRAIN,ENGINE

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11741953

While driving my 2022 Honda CRV at highway speeds and at operating temperature, the steering sticks and/or pauses then releases causing the steering to jerk back in the opposite direction. This creates a major safety issue while driving on the highway and can potentially cause an accident. Additionally, when turning the vehicle left at slow speeds, we would periodically hear a clicking noise. These problems began at the beginning of 2024 and have progressively gotten worse. Initial attempts to have Honda identify the problems failed as they could not replicate the problems at the time of diagnostics. During this time, our warranty expired. On May 20, 2026, we once again had the vehicle inspected by Pohanka Honda of Salisbury, MD for the same issues. This time the lead mechanic technician was able to replicate and pinpoint the problem. He noted the problem was the "Electrical Power Steering System Assembly and Gearbox Assembly", which contained the worm gear and worm wheel assembly. The dealership quoted us a price of $2,153.00 for parts, labor, and a full alignment, which is required during this type of repair. The service technician advised there are no current recalls to cover the cost of this repair. The Honda Corporation has suggested we apply for their “Goodwill Assistance Program”, to help cover cost for out-of-warranty repairs, but there was no guarantee that we would qualify for any monetary relief. We believe Honda Corporation is ignoring a major defect and safety issue regarding the electrical power steering assembly and gearbox, on older CRV models. This same part has been deemed as defective and a major safety issue on newer CRV models between 2023-2025 and has recalled those vehicles for repair. I believe the company should be required to recall all vehicles with the defective electrical power steering assembly and gearbox. Fortunately for us, Honda made the repair and covered the full cost through the Goodwill Assistance Program.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11520143

Driving N on Hwy US-24 in Redford MI near Detroit Diesel at approx 45mph on Sun morning 4/30/2023, the moonroof exploded and shattered glass fell onto driver and front seat passenger. Shattered glass also broke loose and fell to rear of vehicle, causing car behind us to avoid debris by changing lane. The sudden failure of sun/moonroof was without warning, no apparent object struck it, we were not passing under a bridge. The loud boom of explosion was alarming to driver and passenger. The shade was open and we quickly closed it to stop more broken glass from falling onto us. It was raining, approximately 40-45 deg F outside, the car interior temp was 68 deg F. We made temporary repair with cardboard and emergency rain poncho to close opening in roof. We proceeded home at 30-40mph. I collected broken glass by hand, then vacuumed all interior surfaces thoroughly; found no foreign object that could have struck glass. We contacted dealer Monday reporting problem. Dealer stated Honda unlikely to cover glass under warranty claim. Dealer stated there was no recall, technical bulletin or product update concerning sun/moonroofs spontaneously exploding. Dealer did contact Honda and replacement was made under warranty as 'goodwill.' We are happy Honda covered cost of replacement, but did not acknowledge any material defect, workmanship or safety issue. Vehicle is kept in garage when home and open parking lot at work; to our knowledge the roof glass panel was not compromised by any object hitting or scratching it. This is a safety issue: roof glass panels should not explode without warning and broken glass fall on driver or passengers under normal vehicle operation. The loud noise at failure is distracting to driver. Further, broken glass may fall to rear of vehicle. These glass panels' failure mode should be similar to that of front windshield where broken glass retains some integrity. Until then, consumers should be advised, shades closed and emergency closure kits issued.

I am reporting a potentially serious safety concern involving the front driver's-side window of my 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid. While I was driving on a highway, shortly after leaving a stoplight, the front driver's-side window suddenly shattered. I had just come from a stoplight and was not traveling at high speed. There was no known collision or apparent object striking the window that caused it to break. Honda has already refused to assist me with the repair. I have found several NHTSA owner complaints involving spontaneous shattering or exploding of side/rear window glass on this generation of Honda CR-V, including: • NHTSA complaint 11493390 — 2022 Honda CR-V: the passenger window reportedly suddenly imploded while the vehicle was being driven, with no apparent object striking it. • NHTSA complaint 11581530 — 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid: the passenger rear window reportedly exploded while the vehicle was being driven on a highway, with no apparent impact reported. • NHTSA complaint 11571038 — 2021 Honda CR-V: the driver's-side rear window reportedly spontaneously shattered while the vehicle was parked, with no apparent impact or visible damage explaining the breakage. • NHTSA complaint 11749917 — 2021 Honda CR-V: the rear window reportedly suddenly exploded while the vehicle was being backed out of a driveway, with the owner reporting that nothing struck it. I understand that individual consumer complaints do not by themselves establish a manufacturing defect. However, these reports, together with my own incident involving a 2022 CR-V Hybrid, raise a legitimate safety concern that warrants investigation. I am asking NHTSA to review my complaint together with these existing complaints and determine whether further investigation or action is warranted. I am also asking American Honda to document my incident as a potential safety-related glass failure and reconsider its refusal to assist with the repair.
