Incident: I have a Kenmore EliteTrio mfg by LG, that I bought in 2007, Model 795. 77564600. Two weeks ago, I noticed the smell of burnt plastic and electrical wires. After opening the food doors, the light housing was completely melted from its housing. Minuplating the door switches had no effect, so I burnt my hands unscrewing the bulbs out. One burst in my hands because of the heat and sprayed glass all over the referigator. I ordered the parts myself hoping that replacement parts would fix the problem. When the parts came in I had a refigerator repairman come out to insall them. After he did, the problem still existed, the lights stayed on. He said to order new switches for the doors and he would install them. After he left, I did some extensive research on the internet, and found out there are hundreds of complaints of this nature, and the main cause of this problem was a faulty realy in the computer board.

The heat from the bulbs melted the plastic housing around the bulbs and the bulb sockets are scorched black. Luckily we noticed the problem this morning before leaving for the day and removed the bulbs so the heat/melting problem is eliminated. This is a definite fire hazard as had the melting continued the wiring could have melted causing an electrical fire. Burned my hands a couple times on the housing while removing the bulbs.

The light socket and cover are melted and look burned. I removed the light bulbs before a fire started. I contacted sears on line tech support and talked with a fellow who said that there is no recall on the unit and it is out of warranty by nearly a year. He tried very hard to sell me an extended warranty. I decided not to repair the refrigerator at this time. I'm just glad it didn't catch on fire!

Incident: My Kenmore Elite Trio refrigerator has had repeated instances of the inside lights staying on when the doors are closed. This causes the lights to overheat and begin melting the plastic shield over the bulbs as well as ruining food nearby. We have tried removing the light bulbs and reinstalling them after running the refrigerator without them for a period of time. The problem has recurred multiple times, and I have found numerous reports on various websites regarding similar problems. I am concerned about the fire hazard potential from the electronic parts overheating, plus of course burn potential from touching overheating lights and loss of food due to spoilage.

Incident: Came home and opened fridge to find light very hot and the fixture melting, terrible smell of burning plastic. After finding out online that there was a product recall I called Sears and our fridge is part of the recall (I'd like to add that we were never informed of this recall even though we had registered and even had the extended warranty). After further online research I am wondering if we shouldn't insist on a whole new fridge as it seems many people have had this problem repeat itself. What if we are on vacation and this happens again? Or even just gone for a bit too long? Our home could catch on fire! I am very nervous about this now. Scary!

Incident: We have a Kenmore Elite Trio refrigerator which we purchased in the summer of 2006. Today, we discovered that the light cover had begun to melt on top of the refrigerator. When we removed it, we found that the casing all around it had started to melt and the bulbs were clearly too hot. Some of the food in the refrigerator, including some butter, which had melted, were heated by this. It was very concerning to think that this, had we been out of town at this point, could very easily have caused a fire in our home. After researching a bit online, I see that this is not an unusual problem with these refrigerators and am very concerned that there should be a recall on this item!!

Incident: I came home from being out for a few hours and opened my refrigerator to see that the whole electrical unit which is called the Cool Sense Electronic Temperature Control System had fallen off the interior top wall of the refrigerator. The bulbs remained on after it fell and were even burning the ceramic bulb holders to a dark brown. All the food in the top of the shelves had become warm - eggs, etc. The plastic cover for the bulbs had melted and warped. Apparently, the piece dropped off and the bulbs remained on and didn't automatically shut off as it should. This exteme heat was very disconcerting as it could have caused a fire. We had to disconnect the whole temperature unit to make sure the lights didn't stay on and start a fire while we slept that night.

Incident: My husband and I awoke to smoke in our kitchen on Monday, Dec. 26th, 2011. Upon inspection of our Kenmore Elite refrigerator, model #795 77543600, the following was discovered. When the refrigerator was opened the lights on the interior roof of the refrigerator had been on, even with the doors closed, to the point that a plastic butter lid was melted/burnt and all items on the top shelf were hot to the touch. The cover was warped and melted with blackened smoke stains. There were visible smoke stains on the metal above the exterior openings where smoke had escaped from the interior of the refrigerator. The bulbs were so hot that when I tried to unscrew one, it exploded, leaving the metal end of the light bulb in the socket. The light sockets are blackened/stained from the heat and fire. The refrigerator had been properly closed, the lights remain on even after the doors are closed. We tested this by placing our camcorder in the refrigerator briefly while closing the doors. When played back the lights remained on, through several different trials. Both switches at the top of the doors could also be pushed in, which is what happens when the doors are shut, and the lights still remain on. There was enough smoke damage that we are having to repaint our ceilings in our kitchen and dining area. Our refrigerator had to be emptied out and cleaned 5 times to remove the smoke damage and smell, which is still evident. We have documented ALL findings through notes, photos, and video. I go

Incident: My bedroom and kitchen share the same wall. I noticed the plaster/drywall on my bedroom bubbling and falling apart. My husband moved the refrigerator in the kitchen and behind it we found black smoke on the wall and the drywall/plaster had heat damage and crumbled when you touched it. The fan in the back of the refrigerator was not working and overheated. Almost looks like it may have caught fire. I researched to see if anyone else has had this sort of problem before. I found that there was a recall on my model in 2005 for this reason. I called Sears and they said there is no recall and that there will be a charge of $129 for them to just come out and look at my refrigerator. I'm thankful that I noticed the wall in my bedroom as this could have caused a fire. Sears is not helpful. They finally told me just to call LG who manufactured the Kenmore Elite in 2004. Called them and they said to call back tomorrow and ask for the executive supervisor.

Incident: We have a kenmore refrigerator, model number 795.77319600. The lights will staay on whenever they please. We have to unplug the refrigerator to reset the lights. The top light cover has completely melted off the screws, big chunks of the center plastic is now missing, and it hangs now from just the wires. The plastic around hte bulb is even black half way around. We have lost multiple food products from this. Every time it happens all butter and cheese is melted and other foods are warmed. Now all the shelves have been breaking VERY easy. We can only assume this is because of the heat making the plastic not as strong as it used to. I can not believe there is not a recall on this yet! We have only had the fridge for approx 5 years. We can not afford to buy a new fridge at the time, we are a family of 7, and so we are stuck living with this food wasting fire hazard!!! Kenmore needs to STEP UP and help their consumers!

Incident: The product is a Kenmore Refrigerator model # 795.77302600. The lighting element stays on even when the doors are closed. This has happened twice to me so far and also to hundreds of people as well when I looked this model up online. The lighting element has melted the top portion of my refrigerators insulation and the plastic case that it is enclosed in. This was the case in many other homes as well. If I did not catch it in time, both times, there would guaranteed of been a fire. Kenmore has only issued a recall on the lighting element and does not care that your refrigerator was damaged due to the manufacturers defect. This should be a major Fire Hazard Recall from Kenmore. I was suprised when they told me theres nothing they can do about the damage. That I should be happy that at least there replacing it and installing it free of charge. Like that was going to make me sleep better at night. Kenmore should admit that this is a major Fire Hazard Recall before someone loses a house or a life due to a fire. This appliance needs to be reported as unsafe and replaced by Kenmore in all homes. Many of these big corporate appliance companies, that many families have in there homes with major manufacturer defects like this one, should be held accountable. The consumers are the ones who have to suffer with the disservice of these companies especially Kenmore. They are there worst at customer service and I know I will never by another product from Kenmore again.

Incident: 795.77314600 Kenmore refrigerator. Opened the refrigerator last night to find the control board and lamp cover melting, because the light bulbs had not turned off. This is the second time this has occurred. The first time it had only melted the lamp cover, which I had to replace. This time the entire control unit has melted. After doing some research, it turns out this is a known issue with the PCB board and there has been a class action suit, resulting in an extended warranty on these parts. I have contacted Sears and they don't have any record of the issue, or the extended warranty. They either want to schedule a tech to come out (for a $95 fee) or they give me another number to call, with no results.

Incident: The consumer stated that her side by side refrigerator has 2 internal lights at the top of the refrigerator sporadically turn on when the refrigerator is closed. The light bulbs are each 60 watt appliance bulbs. The consumer stated that she would open her refrigerator find that her refrigerator has a burning smell and also find the light bulbs are very hot. The consumer felt that this issue could develop into a fire hazard. The consumer contacted the firm who is also the retailer, the same day of the incident. The firm agreed to send a technician that same day to inspect the side by side refrigerator. The technician had told her that her concern is indeed a safety hazard and that the current model of refrigerators made by the same firm have a different component to prevent this hazard from persisting. The technician stated that the control board is the reason that her refrigerator is apparently keeping the refrigerator lights on when the door is closed.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20230404-549C3-2147348293. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Product: Kenmore 795-77314-6000 (Kenmore bottom freezer refrigerator). Incident: Kenmore refrigerator 795.77314.600 The light bulbs will not cut off and it got so hot that it melted the entire temp control. All the plastic clips were melted leaving the control system hanging by the electrical contact plug. I had to use potholders to unscrew the bulbs. It was so hot that all the food on the top shelf was warm and thrown out. I checked to make sure nothing was keeping the doors ajar preventing lights to go off. If I had not been at home , there is no telling what would have happened. I tried to contact Kenmore/Sears/[REDACTED]. I have called 6 different numbers and were disconnected or transferred or told "since my refrigerator was over 10 years old that it didn't matter if the part was recalled and caught on fire." I read where there is an upgrade that will turn the bulbs off if they stay on too long. I don't know who else to call or contact. I have read many forums with this EXACT problem and were told to reference an earlier recall case and this message "flash sf46-515 This is one of MANY threads........ [REDACTED]
