Gas Clothes Dryers Without Washers (107)

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 28, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20160616-1596D-2147417754. Matched catalog product: LG LG Gas range, Model LDG4313BD. Source model text: [REDACTED]. Incident: I have an LG brand [REDACTED] Gas Dryer that is leaking a strong gas smell. I have had the gas company come to inspect our connection as well as any other potential gas leaks from other appliances, but it is definitely coming from the dryer. The gas smell comes out from the vent and is also VERY strong when I open the dryer door during a regular cycle. I called LG and they told me that this is a safety hazard but because the dryer was purchased more than a year ago, there is nothing that can be done unless there is actual damage created by the dryer to our home (such as a gas explosion I guess).

Incident: Purchased an LG Gas Dryer (Model # DLG1602W, S/N 702KWRE3E382) as part of a wash / dryer combo several years ago. Recently, the dryer stopped drying clothes. The drum would spin but the burner would not ignite. Prior to opening up the dryer, I ordered replacements for the thermostat, high limit thermostat and thermistor assembly. When I opened the front of the dryer in order to remove the drum and install the replacement parts, I discovered a coating of ash around the burner and other areas that would normally be inaccessible. Apparently there had been a build up of lint that had caught fire and left wiring harnesses and wire insulattion melted. The fire was contained to the inside of the dryer.

Incident: The knobs melt and crack on our LG gas range model number LRG30357ST. The range was purchased new in 08/2009 and the knobs began melting/cracking within a year. LG has sent "one time courtesy" replacements 3-4 times now and the most recent set began breaking after only 7.5 months. When the knobs break they do not always turn off and have caused gas leaks. The replacements offered online and through LG's parts supplier are cost prohibitive and defective anyway so the risk increases.

The inner glass on the door shattered inside the oven when I was using the self clean feature for the first time. I set the time for a 3 hour cleaning. I did not hear the glass shatter I just happen to go in the kitchen and look in the door and notice that it had shattered. I noticed this within the first hour of the cleaning. I had used the oven an hour before cleaning and it had been turned off and cool.

Incident: While walking by my LG gas stove (model 3060st) I smelled gas. Stove purchased 5/2019. Upon investigation there is a crack or missed sealing process in the gas manifold (pipe assembly) under the cook top at the main inlet joint. The leak buried my measurement device. I have been noticing a smell for a month or so, but has grown. No known injury, but breathing gas cant be good. Called LG, they say concerned but I will be charged for their manufacturing defect. Concerned on safety due to major gas leak and potential for catastrophic injury.

Incident: I turned the self clean cycle on my 18 month old LG Propane Oven yesterday, model LRGL5823S. An hour into the cycle, I heard a loud explosion of glass. I was in the kitchen, but thankfully not right by the oven, because glass was at least a foot around the perimeter, most of the glass pouring and popping out of the bottom of the door. The inner glass of the door had exploded. There was a mat in front of the oven, and the glass coming out actually melted the mat. I immediately reached over and turned the oven off. For an hour after that, as the oven cooled, more glass just kept breaking and falling out of the bottom of the door. I reached out to customer service and was gifted a 25% coupon code.

Incident: The flame control knobs on my LG gas range repeatedly fail, often resulting in gas leaking even when knobs are in the off position. LG replacement parts for the same model also fail within days of normal use. There is an internal plastic component in the knobs which fractures (possibly due to heat) and this prevents the knob from engaging the flame control mechanisms. This has resulted in delayed ignition, flares, and most commonly, gas leakage. There are numerous complaints online regarding the same issue and the same model #. LG sends replacements knobs which also fail.

Incident: I've identified a serious safety problem with this range. I am 5'4", the average height of an American female. Several times over the past week I have engaged a knob and started burners while reaching to either start an oven function or use the over-the-stove microwave. Today, I put a cup of tea in the microwave and walked out of the room. I walked back in several minutes later to the strong odor of gas. I believe the knobs, which are located on the front of the unit, are too sensitive to weight and far too easy to engage. (I did not even feel the knob when I put the cup in the microwave.) I believe this is definitely an engineering flaw and should be addressed immediately before someone sets themselves on fire or blows their house up.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20120522-861AD-2147467360. Matched catalog product: LG LG Gas range, Model LDG4313BD. Source model text: DLGX2502W. Incident: The safety concern is on an LG Steam Dryer -- model #DLGX2502W purchased in February of 2010. The first incident was in February of 2012, where I smelled a gas leak. After confirmation from a gas professional that the leak was not in the line or at the connection, we called an appliance repairman. The leak was at one of the valves. It was replaced and there was confirmation through testing that there was no further leak. 3 months later we smelled gas again. The valve has already burned out... new theory is that there is a defect in the control board that is causing the valves to burn out. A video demonstration on youtube (link attached) demonstrates EXACTLY what is happening to my dryer (this is the exact same model). THIS IS A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD.. THE WAY THE DRYER IS OPERATING IS TO RELEASE GAS BETWEEN THE FIRE CYCLES. I called LG again (5/22/12) and they claim that there is not a defect (without even bother to investigate my claim or without speaking to my repairman that can provide exact details) and that NO ONE else has called regarding this issue. I find this EXTREMELY hard to believe for 2 reasons: 1) there is a youtube video that documents the issue - filming exactly what I'm seeing in my dryer, and 2) replacement control boards for this model are on back order from LG until June 2012... indicating a part that is in high demand

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20130110-461F2-2147459988. Severity: Injury, No First Aid or Medical Attention Received. Matched catalog product: LG LG Gas range, Model LDG4313BD. Source model text: LDG 3016ST. Incident: Cooking on the LG double oven gas range produced burning odors which I could not at first figure out where it was coming from. After a few weeks I noticed that the handles on my pots and pans were browning. One day as I was boiling some water using the superBoiler burner, the handle twisted from being weakened from the heat coming from the burner. The flames shoot exceptionally high on this range in order to reach/heat the pan. The grid is higher than a lot of other manufacturers. The high level of the grid means the fire has a longer reach to get to the pan, so the space in between leaves more opportunity for anything like pot holders, scarfs, long sleeves, pan handles, etc. to receive direct heat, intense heat or flame contact. And I have experienced all of this. This is not a safe product for children or adults to be around. I am especially concerned about my pan handles that seem to have melted away - making them extremely weak and risky to handle or even to continue using. The fumes from the melting handles eventually give you some warning that something is amiss with this range, but you may not make the connection right away because in my case this was a new stove so I thought it was burning off its newness as I was told by the installer that it would take awhile for that particular smell to go away. Handling pans with weakened handles makes it dangerous to cook on because the handle may tilt or worst, give way all together and spill hot food or liquid on-not just the c

Then tried to turn on super boiler burner on LG gas RANGE but middle burner came on instead and I couldn't' turn it off. It stayed on no mater what I did. It was Sunday so called gas company. Took hours but when they finally came said gas leak in stove and turned off gas. Took 2 days for repairman to come. He checked for leaks but showed me that all 5 knobs had a plastic part cracked that made it impossible to turn any of the burners off completely. It cost $450 for replacement knobs and they are made of the same cheap plastic part that is very vulnerable to cracking and resulting in same hazard. This is a $1900 stove. I was sickened by the fumes, but could have died from breathing these fumes. This knob design flaw is a fire, explosion, injury hazard and should be recalled immediately. Researching replacement knobs, I literally read hundreds of this same complaint on a dozen sites. When I called LG to express my concerns all they would do was give me a number for a business that has been trained to fix their product. All they cared about it their profits.

Incident: In August 2017 I purchased a new LG 30" freestanding gas range (LRG4113st). During the short time since I bought it, twice I noted the gas on with no known reason. I initially blamed myself. However -- and more frightening -- I have twice since accidentally turned on the front right burner as I walked by. The second time, the wrapping on a gift nearby caught fire, and although I quickly extinguished it, these two accidental lighting episodes leave me scared spitless that either I or someone else will have a far greater accident. Clothing easily catches on the oversized and angular knobs. It requires almost no pressure to push the knobs in and turn them. Playing with the knobs to see what was going on, it is clear that it is exceedingly easy to turn on all four burner knobs with an easy swipe of fingers -- no distinct push and turn is required. The fact that the knobs are squared at the corners and are large apparently contributes to clothing catching the knobs easily. That a 'catch' can result so easily in a 'light' is frightful.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20170831-B3230-2147397756. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: LG LG Gas range, Model LDG4313BD. Source model text: Ldg4313bd. Incident: The control knobs for the range are extremely easy to engage. Numerous times in just a few short months, the knobs have been bumped, leaving gas to leak in the house for extended periods of time. It is only upon entering the room that you smell the gas, and realize the stove buttons have been Twisted a bit. Two other times, when reaching past the stove into a cupboard, the knobs have been bumped with a hip of an adult, just enough, to engage the igniter, lighting the burner while someone was reaching over the stove.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20191227-61C31-2147375765. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: LG LG Gas range, Model LDG4313BD (LG Gas range, Model LDG4313BD, Stainless Steel). Incident: My wife and I purchased an LG range, Model LDG4313BD, on November 9, 2017. We were disturbed to find two years later - around November 21, 2019 - after the warranty had expired, that the oven cooked unevenly. Some foods on one side of the oven were in different states of doneness than those, in the same cooking container, on other sides. We were more concerned, a few dates later, when the oven would not heat up; however, after a couple of minutes, a fireball ignited in the oven! We quickly turned it off. We called a professional repair person to look at the range. He stated initially that LG ranges were a problem and that the lower convection oven motor needed to be replaced. The gas would heat up, but with a broken motor, had nowhere to go other than to ignite within the oven. He subsequently replaced it for $373.00 that for an oven that was barely two years old. He also warned us not to use the self-cleaning option on the range because that, too, would be a problem. My wife called LG to complain about the range fireball and was told that the warranty had indeed expired and they could refer us to an LG repair person. Of course, we had already hired someone who had replaced the range motor. LG did not stand behind its product at all.
