SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20111224-9F422-2147472087. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Whirlpool Model #wrf767sdhz 26.8 cu ft 3 door French door re. Source model text: Accubake Couble Wall Oven. Incident: I didn't realize that I have an oven that had a safety recall back in 2004. Last night, I decided to use the self-clean feature. The oven and control panel both shut off during the cycle. The oven is now cooled but the door is locked and the control panel is still off. After researching the issue, I discovered that this is a well-known issue with these ovens and that some have had the glass explode during the self-clean cycle. I also learned that they may have faulty wiring, posing a fire hazard.

Source model text: [REDACTED]. Incident: Our Whirlpool 1.9-cu.-ft.-smart-over-the-range-microwave-with-scan-to-cook-technology (wmh78019hz) experienced a computer board/sensor failure while in use. It failed to turn on its automatic vent hood while water was being boiled below it on a gas range. This caused heat damage to the unit itself, which we noticed when we opened the door to the microwave oven and chunks of plastic dropped into pots below. The door is broken and warped. We unplugged the unit and contacted Whirlpool. They have other microwaves on RECALL for what sounds like a similar failure/fire hazard but stated this microwave was not yet reported for such issues.

Source model text: Whirlpool Range. Incident: I am reporting this for my 87 year old father who is a disabled (wheelchair bound) WWII Vet. He had a Whirlpool range in his house, which he had for years. One evening recently he was using one of the burners on the top of the stove on a medium temperature. As he was approaching the range, in his wheelchair, to check on the food he was cooking. The glass front on the oven door exploded. Glass was strewn everywhere! Thank God he was not hurt. Since the oven door was close to his eye level in his wheelchair, we are thankful that he was not blinded!!! He was shaken up. He called the Fire Dept. since he was home alone. They made sure he was okay and cleaned up the glass for him.

Source model text: WMH76718AB. Incident: On numerous occasions when using this microwave the unit fills with steam, unable to see inside the microwave through door due to condensation on glass. When microwave door is opened steam billows out. Condensation covers the glass and inside unit walls andfloor are covered, in one case it puddled in the corner of the unit. Danger due to the steam coming out of the unit when door is opened. There appears to be no venting of the heat/steam from inside the microwave. Someone is going to get hurt. I contacted whirlpool 4 times and had two warranty repair technicians come out. Both technicians said the unit is operating as designed, but had an "excessive" amount of steam buildup. Both stated they would not buy this unit. Whirlpool said it is operating normally and should have this buildup inside when cooking. I have a video I would like to share. I am going to try to get Home Depot to take the unit back, but I think it is important that this be reported.

When the oven rack is in the second level position and you pull it out it fails to stop and seamlessly comes completely out creating a serious safety hazard whereas the baking dishes and rack will fall out of oven onto glass oven door possibly shattering the glass door and possible burns and injuries to the consumer. I used my oven and and had a baking dish on the rack in the second position. I was attempting to pull out the rack to check the food when the dish and rack began to fall out of the oven. I was able to catch the dish of food as the rack fell on the oven door. I was lucky to catch the dish but someone else may not be as lucky and serious injury could happen. I immediately contacted Whirlpool because to me this is a manufacturer defect that the rack slide stops on 4 of the 5 levels and no safety stickers are on the second rack level warning the consumer to manually stop pulling out the rack before it falls. Whirlpool sent a "certified" expert repair technician to repair the oven. The technician saw and confirmed to me that yes the second slide stop doesn't work like the other 4 levels and relayed that information to Whirlpool who concluded the oven is working as designed!! So I went out to 2 locations selling this model Whirlpool Range and tested the rack slide stops and found on 4 display ovens this same defect exists. The sales

Incident: #1- physical injury! My WHIRLPOOL microwave, model WML55011HS-2, has on several occasions cut me horizontally along my neck/chin when the door is opened or closed. The door bottom edge is very very sharp and pointed. Initially, I was kinda shocked as I have never had anything like this happen, but it has happened several times and to other people who have used it, therefore I feel it is a unsafe design that can cause injury. I am not sure why they would have such a razor sharp pointed edge on the door that opens into the customers body space. This design will cut/hit people in different places on their body depending on that person's height. For preteens will be on their face and head, for me it was on my neck as I am 5'5" tall. Serious design flaw!!

It worked ok for about a couple of years. Then, one day, I placed a ramen dish into the microwave for 4 minutes, as I had done before with the same dish, without problem - but this time after about a couple of minutes, the microwave seemed to have exploded. I smelled the smoke and immediately ran to the microwave and tore the door open. There were flames on the inside, thick black smoke was escaping from it and from the surrounding cabinets that it was installed in [it's still in there]. Despite my panic, I somehow was able to stop the flames crawling up the inside walls. After I opened all windows and doors to clear out the smoke, I tried to clean up but the inside of the microwave would not get clean and is still totally burned and brown today. I was lucky the house did not catch fire! It was a traumatic event for me and I did not even want to use any microwave for a while. But recently, I advised the Whirlpool Corporation of the situation and asked for a replacement and the cost of removing and reinstalling a new microwave into the same kitchen cabinets. They only offered me 50% toward the cost of a new (cheap) microwave which I did not accept. I believe this is a dangerous product and the fact that it exploded out of nowhere could have caused much damage. I believe the company should stand behind their product and not hide behind a warranty t

Incident: Maytag over-stove microwave, model MMV4205BAW, s/n 17283056NN. The other night, I set the time with power at 8 and as soon as I pushed start, this extremely loud sound with an intensely bright white light came from the right side behind the vent grill. As fast as I could, I opened the door to stop the cycle. It was obviously an electrical arcing of some kind for some reason and was very frightening. To find out if it would do it again, I cleared the settings, then set the time with the power full, put my hand on the handle to open the door as quick as possible if necessary and then pushed start. It didn't arc. However, the incident left my family quite spooked. Just tonight we saw a report on the news that there are a number of over range microwaves that have caught fire, many of which weren't even on at the time. This report combined with our own experience has us very concerned about the safety of this microwave. This isn't the first time I've had an issue with this unit, as I've had to replace 3 times the sprocket piece in the center that the turntable plate grips onto to rotate. In each case, the fault has been a crack in the thin plastic of the cylinder that pushes over the spindle. The crack has been the same spot in all the pieces and it usually takes about 9 months to a year and then it breaks. Once the crack appears, it can't grip the spindle to rotate the turntable.

Incident: Our Whirlpool Gold microwave oven Model GT4185SKS-2 worked well for 10 years without incidents or repairs; however one day after warming up a glass of milk (use completed and clock displayed) we closed the door and it began making a low, constant humming sound. We opened the door, the humming stopped and the interior light came on. Curious, we placed a glass of cold water in the center of the microwave and simply closed the door without touching the keypad. The humming sound immediately started, the interior was dark, no light on, and the turntable did not move. Within 60 seconds we could see our water boiling. We opened the door, the light turned on, the humming stopped. Our water was boiling and steam came pouring out the top of the unit. Then we smelled a bit of smoke, something was burning although we don't know what. We immediately flipped the fuse and began unscrewing its 27" trim kit to remove the microwave from our cabinetry. We believe had we not been home and awake to manage this issue, and the wherewithal to cut the circuit and remove the microwave, it would have burned our house down.

Source model text: WFE745H0FS0. Incident: I was using my whirlpool oven and noticed over the past three days, items were hotter than expecting or even burned. Yesterday, less than 7 minutes after placing cookies in the pre-heated oven at 400 degrees, smoke was billowing out of the oven and my parchment paper was on fire and cookies black. When I pressed the cancel button which is how it is supposed to turn off, it said "fault detected" but didn't turn off. It didn't give a repair code. It was still reading that it was set and on to 400 degrees. It was so hot that the top of my oven, the glass burner cooktop, would burn my skin if I touched it. I could not get the oven to turn off and had to turn the breaker off. Then, the oven would not power back on. 40 minutes after I shut it off at the breaker, I set a candy thermometer on the stove top and it was 109 degrees, with the windows open and cold air blowing on it. I took a video of his diagnostics. He set it to 250 degrees, and within a minute his temperature measurement indicated it was almost 400. He turned it off for safety and did not continue to see how high it would get. He said there are two safety switches in the oven that are a redundant protection to prevent the oven from doing t

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20250323-A5AF1-2147332390. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Whirlpool Model #wrf767sdhz 26.8 cu ft 3 door French door re (26.8 cubic foot refrigerator). Incident: 9 month old whirlpool refrigerator compressor completely failed. Compressor starter continues tried to restart compressor. The temperature of metal was 508 degrees before the buzzing alerted us to problem. The unit does not have any fail safe system built in to turn off power. Service tech states this is a major problem for whirlpool and the compressor cools with isbutane. A month without a refrigerator and a fire hazard to boot. I would not wish this on my worst enemy. We got this terrible, unsafe disaster from lowes. The new compressor will arrive Tuesday and the tech has to use a cutting torch to remove bad compressor. We have to be away from residence while this happens. PLEASE NOTE. WE LOST 365 PLUS DOLLARS IN FOOD AND 1200 DOLLARS WORTH OF MEDICATIONS BEING [REDACTED] ALSO.. Whirlpool refused any compensation or loaner refrigerator. I also purchae3d the 5 year warranty on the product at the same time.
