Incident: I purchased a GE 4 in 1 Grill from Walmart. The model number is 169232. It is a counter top grill that comes with drip cups. I grilled bacon in the grill and the dip cups melted and hot grease spilled all over the counter and dripped on the floor. The cups are made from a hard plastic and does not hold up to hot grease that they are made for. I called GE and was told that they did not make the grill and that Walmart has bought their name to use of products sold in their stores. I called Walmart and was offered new dip cups made from the same material. I tried to speak with someone about the design needing to be changed was never called back. The fact that the grease can spill on the floor causes a dangers ecspecially to families that have young children it may spill on. I was very disturbed with the response from GE, thinking I was buying a good product and Walmart does not seem to care.

Source model text: Sensor Microwave Oven. Incident: I purchased a GE "Sensor Microwave Oven" on 4/10/2011 to replace my 7 yr. old microwave (which still worked but not the carrousel). My husband was died of cancer so the microwave was only used for occasionally reheating foods or veggies and melting chocolate/butter, etc. Last evening I suddenly heard beeping & checked - my microwave was beeping & the digital readout said "keypad was shorted out". (Note: I had not used the micro for 2-1/2 days - IT WAS SITTING IDLE!) I opened the door and the insides were SCALDING HOT and smelled HOT too (a fire hazard in the making - thank goodness I was @ home!)! I tried working the keypad but nothing worked so I unplugged it. After leaving it cool down I plugged it in again & it told me to "set the clock", I did and it seemed ok (I was still hesitant). Within 2 minutes, while I was standing there, it SUDDENLY STARTED on it's own! Again, none of the keypad buttons worked so I unplugged it and it is STILL UNPLUGGED! I will not use this appliance again. I sent an electronic email to GE on their www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/contact/form_concern.htm last evening. I received an auto-reply: "Thank you for contacting us through www.geappliances.com. We have received your eMail on 9/7/2011 at 09:50:00 PM EST. I soon began to smell the very distinct smell of electric (burning plastic) and smoke came into the kitchen. I quickly unplugged the unit and turned off the main power to the house. The smoke and burning smell were alarming to me. An electrician came to our house to make sure the problem was not wiring. It was in fact from the microwave.

There was no food in the oven and there was no residue on the heating element, or other apparent causes for this spark. We turned off the oven, but there was still a visible electric current on the heating element, which began to melt. We unplugged the oven, which caused the spark to dissipate. The element was completely melted -- if we hadn't taken immediate action, it could have easily developed into a dangerous house fire.

Looking at other stoves on the market they all seem to keep the knob profile below surface level. Incident: I own a GE Model # JGB281SER3SS gas stove. Around September 2011 I noticed that a couple of times the gas was turned on at the burner with no flame and I had not been cooking, I thought it was just a fluke but in February 2012 the whole downstairs of the house smelled like gas. The burner was on and must have been on for a while with no flame. My son was empting the garbage sometime in March and backed up into the stove which turned the gas on but no flame so we have since determined that simply bumping into the stove knobs or brushing against the knobs can turn the burners on but does not stop at the area for it to electronically ignite the flame, so gas escapes into the house. This has happened so often that I am afraid to use this stove. I find this very dangerous, what if someone would bump into the stove right before bed? It could build up enough gas to either asphyxiate us or cause an explosion. I have also experience a strong gas smell every time I turn a burner on or use the oven. I find this highly unacceptable and I want this fixed before it does cause a deadly accident.

Incident: On August 27, 2013 I woke up at 2:00am. To the sound of the microwave running. I got up and saw it was on. Everyone in the house was asleep. I turned it off and removed a pan that was inside. I had forgotten that I left the pan in the microwave from dinner, 7 hours before. When I opened the door i noticed that there was a spot on the door where it almost burned through. I pushed the clear button numerous times and went back to bed, only to be woken up twice more by the microwave turning itself on again. Each time the microwave read, sensor error. At that point I was so frightened that it would burn the house down that I unplugged the unit and have not used it since. I am afraid that if I plug it in it will start up again. It is a GE model JVM1750SM1SS, serial number RR902672B, manufactured August 2008. I contacted the manufacturer and am waiting to hear back from them but in the mean time I am concerned for anyone else that owns this model. It may end up killing a family while they are sleeping.

Incident: There is a current recall on GE French Door Bottom Freezer Refrigerators for the handle falling off and people falling. My refrigerator which is a Model GWE19JGLBB installed 9/09/2020 has the exact same defect and is not included in the recall. The handle has pulled off multiple times, the first time I fell back into the stove. It is only popped on with a weak plastic fastener designed to fail. This was acknowledged by a service technician who came under warranty for an unrelated issue and agreed it is a ridiculous design. He had GE send me replacement plastic clips (photo attached) which are just as weak as the originals. We have since resigned ourselves to opening the bottom freezer by grabbing the sides of the drawer and not using the handle. A friend getting some ice unknowingly used the handle and it popped off again and they banged into the stove opposite the refrigerator. If GE has a legitimate fix for this I feel my model number should be included.

Source model text: GFE24JMKLFES. Incident: We bought a fridge mid pandemic. Apparently, GE issued a bulletin on the computer within the fridge. A batch of faulty computer parts were used leading to failure of the entire fridge. We did not know of this and were not alerted to this by GE. We thought we were going crazy. The fridge seemed to keep getting warmer. We dethawed it twice. One child even had food poising as a result of unsafe temperatures. We immediately called a repair tech out the minute we noticed there was a more serious issue. That person told us about the bulletin. $752 repair. Despite publishing a bulletin, GE is not sticking by the product, not issuing refunds. In addition, not informing customers about this could lead to food poising (as in our case) and cause severe health problems, especially for the immunocompromised.

I was looking at the warranty book when to my amazement, the microwave went on all by itself! I am concerned that if its happened to me with two different units this could be a bigger issue. Both toasters when being used were done cooking and the display went to sleep mode. But I could smell a hot smell smell a while later and they were both still on and very hot with the top elements still running. They were close to starting a fire and if anyone touched the top half of the machine they would have been burnt. The only way to stop it was to unplug it.

Then we contacted an appliance repair company and they came out to our house and stated that they would not touch the unit since they have seen many GE microwave/oven wall unit just like ours that catch fire and it is clearly a safety and fire hazard. GE will not reimburse us any for cost of the unit and it giving us a complete run-a-round. Please investigate. Thank you.

Incident: Incident occurred Sunday January 4th, microwaved was used for 8 minutes to heat/thaw leftover ham.....then placed steamable microwaveable bag of mixed vegetables for 4 minutes.....went to upper level of my home...came back down stairs and home was filled with yellowish smoke and electrical smell.... determined microwave was source of smoke...but it was not the food or the cooking chamber that was on fire, Nor the food/food bag. Food bag was not even hot...barely warm. (Cavity and exterior actually look like new despite The chamber having been filled with smoke) Chamber was filled with smoke but no fire...smoke and extreme heat was coming from control panel side of microwave and heat could be felt all over cabinet side. wood was so hot to touch we believed it would catch house on fire. My husband unplugged it and unbolted it and removed from the cabinet to prevent house fire. We contacted GE and asked if there was a recall on the model and was advised there was no recall. then i explained what happened and was transferred to a consumer agent. She advised an authorized service agent we would bring the microwave to them. RRR is the service agency in Bedford VA. Servicer advised they would get to it as soon as they could and would then advise what is wrong with it. We have not yet heard from the servicer or GE and had no report from them as to the problem.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20180121-5A0BB-2147393513. Severity: Injury, Level of care not known. Matched catalog product: GE The model # is -JGBS60DEK6WW.. Incident: We ran the dishwasher after cleaning up the kitchen at approximately 10:00pm Saturday January 20, 2018. Around 10:15, we noticed an odor of electrical fire smoke while watching tv 2 rooms away. In the kitchen we found smoke coming from the top of the dishwasher. We disconnected the power and removed the unit. Upon disassembling the door to assess the damage we found the board had suffered too severe damage to repair. The counter top also suffered minor damage and our entire house had to be ventilated. The smoke was very irritating to myself and one of my children, enough to wake him from sleep in a panic. After purchasing a new dishwasher on January 21,2018, I decided to see if anyone else had this issue, so I googled Ge profile dishwasher fire and found this recall site.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20220518-5E5C8-2147356144. Severity: Injury, First Aid Received by Non-Medical Professional. Product: General Electric The model # is -JGBS60DEK6WW. (General Electric 30" white Gas stove. The stove was made in Mexico. Lowes delivered and installed it using new hoses on the back which my daughter also purchased.). Incident: There are 2 things that need to be checked out on this General Electric gas stove. My daughter bought this for me this past February so it is new. The first thing is that where the controls are located on the top has an extremely sharp lower section that is open and when I was wiping the stove down I received a very bad gash on my hand. I think this part should be protected somehow. The metal that cut my hand was just about razor sharp. The next is even more dangerous. I was baking a Tri tip the other night and had a glass measuring cup with a knife and a spoon in it on the top of the stove where the burners are located. When I picked this measuring cup up it was so hot it burned my hand. I had to remove it with a dish towel. I had previously noticed that anything that was on the top when the oven was in use was extremely warm and wondered a bit about it. But I was shocked at how hot the glass measuring cup was. This could be very dangerous to someone.
