Matched catalog product: Mr. Coffee 14-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker BVMC-PC14BL2. Source model text: JEH 200. Incident: I've had my Juice Machine by Mr. Coffee for several years and decided to use it, as I had some small [REDACTED] grapes and wanted to get some juice to make jelly. I put less than 1/8 a cup of fresh grapes in it, plugged it in, turned it on, and POW! The machine exploded while it was still plugged in. The base was flipping around on the counter; the round top & metal base blade were spinning; large & tiny chunks of plastic were hurled throughout my kitchen, into the dining room, and down the hall into the utility room! It finally unplugged itself from the wall when the base fell to the floor. It is a miracle my eyesight was not taken from me. For several hours after it happened, I had a loud hum in my ears that turned into sounding like I was under water. Now, I just have an extremely high pitched constant sound. I have had some tinnitus in the past, and it kind of sounds like that only much higher. I took a bath to remove all the tiny pieces of plastic stuck to my face, neck, and body and washed my eyes with an eye rinse. I'm still finding tiny little pieces of plastic on my neck, face, and arms. On Monday, I may go to see my eye doctor to make sure nothing is still in my eyes. I have no idea what caused it to do what it did. I have owned many Mr. Coffee products and have always been very happy with them.

The plastic cover over the coffee basket and water well does not seal to prevent steam from escaping around this cover. The steam generated in the brewing process appears to expand the plastic cover and causes it to pop open to release superheated steam. The steam has burned the face and hands of the user.

This morning, I went to fill the carafe with water, and the plastic lid/top fell into the carafe. As I pulled it out, the carafe shattered in my hands, inches away from my 8 month old sitting in her highchair. There was virtually no resistance in pulling the top out of the carafe, and I did not have to tug or apply pressure for the glass carafe to shatter and splinter into dozens of pieces. I now have tiny cuts all over my hands.

Incident: About a month ago I had purchased a Mr. Coffee coffee machine and I noticed last night that it was on. There were no lights indicating that it was on it . If the product was working properly there should have a light on. Also, it was set on a timer so it shouldn't have been on. The machine was extremely hot and was steaming. It hd no water in it and like I said there was no indication that the machine was on. The lights were not working. After looking into reviews, I noticed that I am not the only one with this complaint. I feel like this product is a fire hazard. I was not home for most of the day so I don't know how long the coffee pot was on.. Also, it's suppose to shut off automatically after 2 hours.

I reached out to the company to express concern about safety, and they replied that because the product is out of warranty they provide no service. The machine is two years old and only lightly used in a home setting. My concern is that the metal part or magnet could be unknowingly consumed by a person, and the company provided a generic and uninterested response.

Source model text: BVMC-TJX37. Incident: We used our Mr Coffee maker every morning making 8 cups of coffee. Never used the timer. Woke up one morning and there was no power to the pot. Discovered that the circuit to the house was blown for the kitchen and other rooms. Reset circuit, pot was dead. I feel that this could of been a fire hazard if the circuit had not blown.

Incident: I purchased a Mr. Coffee Espresso maker Model # BVMC-ECM 260 at Walmart. It exploded on its second use. The brew basket detached from its retainer clip while it was brewing coffee and exploded, splattering the walls, floor and countertop with coffee grounds and water. Abut a third of coffee had brewed into the carafe when this happened. I've been using an espresso maker for more than 15 years and this has never happened before. This is the second Mr. Coffee espresso maker that I have purchased in the past eight years.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20151023-5DE7E-2147427297. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Mr. Coffee 14-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker BVMC-PC14BL2. Source model text: JWx23. Incident: I put water into the coffeemaker reservoir and turned it on to brew. After a couple of minutes, I smelled burning and the coffeemaker had smoke coming from the back of it. After unplugging it, I realized the bottom of the coffee maker had a melted hole in it, exposing the electrical parts . The coffee maker at that time had also started a burn hole in my counter top. The coffee maker hot plate detached from the bottom frame of the coffeemaker where you place the pot. The plastic is melted around where the hotplate connects to the bottom frame in addition to the hole on the bottom. I have contacted Mr. Coffee through e-mail. This was brand new purchased at Walmart. Please advise on this matter. I can e-mail photos and send product if Mr. Coffee reimburses for shipping. It was only twenty dollars but this could have been a fire situation. Thank-you. [REDACTED]

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20190918-841C8-2147377602. Matched catalog product: Mr. Coffee 14-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker BVMC-PC14BL2. Incident: This September 17, 2019 in the afternoon, hours after being turned off and empty, our Mr. Coffee electric, 12 cup coffee maker, about 1 year old, model # bvmc-PJX23 ---- sent billows of smoke and fire. I run into my smoke and smell filled kitchen, pulled the cord out and knocked the coffee maker into the sink, I couldn't touch it, fire flames were reaching toward the ceiling. Took a long time to extinguish the flames. Because of the smell burned plastic we couldn't' spend the night at home. Worst of all, we lost the innocence of feeling safe at home with any plugged in appliance . If we weren't home, this coffee maker would burn the house down. If we were sleeping, we could be dead!. This is just awful.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20240119-DC5D3-2147342635. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Product: Mr. Coffee 14-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker BVMC-PC14BL2 (Mr. Coffee 14-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker Model #: BVMC-BVMC-PC14BL2 Color: Black & Stainless Steel SAP #: 2143561). Incident: On September 21, 2023, I purchased a Mr. Coffee 14-cup coffee maker (Model #: BVMC-PC14BL2) from my local Wal-Mart. On December 22, 2023, I discovered that after the 4-hour warming timer expired, the Brew Now light turned off, indicating that it had shut down, but the warmer was still extremely hot and when I attempted to add water for a programmed delayed brew the next morning, it began trying to brew immediately, even though the Brew light was still turned off. The only way to make it turn off was to unplug it. Thinking it was a fluke, I returned the defective coffee maker to WalMart on December 21, 2023, and exchanged it for a new one of the same model. Yesterday, January 18, less than 30 days after purchase, this new one did the exact same thing. There are numerous reviews on WalMart and other sites for this coffee maker of other customers experiencing this exact same issue. I believe that this product is not only defective, but poses both a burn injury risk and a fire hazard, and needs to be recalled. I called Mr. Coffee this morning to advise them of this, and they did offer me a refund. However, I believe that this product is extremely dangerous and needs to be recalled.
