Electric Ranges or Ovens (Excl Counter-top Ovens) (278)

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 28, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20251123-6862C-2147326154. Matched catalog product: Frigidaire Electric Range Model FFEF3054TS. Source model text: FFEF3054TSR. Incident: My wife placed a hamburger bun in the oven to slightly toast it by turning the oven on Broil. The bun was removed from the oven and the oven was turned off. We ate our lunch and afterwards opened the oven door slightly to let the heat out. A few minutes later, the outer tempered glass panel shattered, and glass was blown out on our kitchen floor. This was at least 30 minutes after the oven was turned off and, thankfully, no one was in contact with or in front of the oven door at the time that it shattered. The glass was only slightly warm to the touch at the time that it shattered. My concern is that this would have injured a small child or the bare legs of an adult if they would have been in front of the oven door at the time that it shattered.

Source model text: FFEF3054TSR. Incident: The outer glass on my Frigidaire oven shattered. I baked a pizza at 425*F. When the pizza was finished cooking I turned the oven off and served the pizza to my child (8). 30-40 minutes later there was loud POP and then the sound of glass shattering. I went into the kitchen and saw the oven door had shattered everywhere in my kitchen. No injuries. I searched online for the replacement parts and came across many reviews for the exact same thing happening, some even when the oven was off and hadn't been used in hours. I moved into my home in May 2023 and had all new Frigidaire kitchen appliances included with the home. Frigidaire customer service rep, "[REDACTED]" told me there is no recall related to this product and "the repair costs will be out of your pocket as the unit is no longer under warranty" and quoted me over $300 for a technician to come install a new glass. When I mentioned the multiple reviews for the same issues, I was offered a 20% off discount. There is no recall for this product but there should be, very unsafe. Thankful my son was not in the kitchen at the time it shattered.

Source model text: FFEF3054TSN. Incident: The front glass on my Frigidaire oven exploded and shattered all over my kitchen. No one was injured by the exploding glass, as no one was in the kitchen at the time. The oven was set to preheat and had not yet reached 350 degrees. Had someone been in the kitchen at the time, there could have been injuries to the person's legs. I had been standing in front of the oven just 2 minutes before, had I not stepped away, the glass would have impacted me. A small child, like my 6 year old, could have been more severely injured had she been in there at the time.

All the LEDs were illuminated, and she couldn't open the oven because the oven lock had engaged. I came and inspected, and suspected an electrical fire. I ran downstairs to throw the circuit breaker, which then stopped the smoke and beeping. After removing the control panel, I noticed the back of the control board was burned. I inspected our other oven (we have 2 wall mounted ovens, both the same model), and it had minor burns on the back of it was well, but was working fine. This is clearly a manufacturing failure, and not an isolated incident. The home and ovens are only 8 years old.

Incident: Purchased my range on 12-17-2007, and picked up in Jan. 2008 from Sears. Prior to 11-24-2008 the stove (eyes) started staying on at the highest temperature even when turned down. My husband called Frigidaire on this date and was told to turn the main breaker off and then back on. Upon doing this the stove worked correctly for several months, then started acting up again. I spoke with Frigidaire and Sears several times after this and was told "Sorry it is out of warrenty and you can pay to have fixed". On 10-16-2009 I reached E. Cooko unit 94.22 at Frigidaire and was told that Ace Appliance and Repair would fix at no charge, after waiting a week, I never heard back and contacted Ace and was told they were never contacted by Frigidaire. So I continued to call Frigidaire and was told nothing could be done, my last conversation was with [REDACTED] on 10-23-09. My stove eyes continue to stay on high after using the stove to this day. I am able to turn the eye off and listen for a click and then it will start working correctly for a short time. My stove is a Frigidaire Gallery Series Model # GLEFS79DSL Seriel VF74969984. It was not on the recall list but is and has been posing the same fire hazard as the ones that were recalled. I do not understand how it could not have been covered under warrenty when Frigudaire was contacted prior to 1 year. Incident: I purchased my Frigidaire Electric Range in 2007, Model # FEFL79DBK Serial # VF65146242. From the begining, the left front burner would get very hut when in use. I never thought too much of it until about a little over a year from purchase date when it would not turn off when in the OFF position. I called Frigidaire and they said I would need to pay $110 dollars to have it looked at. Because it was just a few weeks out of warranty they would not be covering the cost of it. I happened to google the product and there are many of these Frigidaire and Kenmore products that have been recalled. My range is not on the recall list, however it looks exactly the same and has the same exact problems. There are many complaints of this model online. So why would it be that the same problems on many stoves, but they only recall some of the models? Frigidaire's customer service department is horrible and shows no empathy for the customers concerns. I called them on two other occasions and they have been of no help. One of their reps actually gave me a number to receive further help and it was a disconnected number. The stove now turns itself on at random times and will no longer turn off unless I turn off the electric breaker switch. There are visible sparks and popping sounds under the glass. I have read horror stories of these ranges catching on fire, exploding, etc. I have two small children and cannot wait until something bad happens to take care of this problem. I am pleading for help

Source model text: fpef3081kf. Incident: We purchased a Fridgedaire electric range model number FPEF3081KF seriel number VF11236101 on July 4, 2011. Tonight, the control panel caught on fire! Thankfully, my husband was in the kitchen at the time or else it could have been tragic since we have a home with four young children. There was no food on the stove, nor was anything burning in the oven. The oven was on at the time, but there was no fire in the oven - it was strickly confined to the control panel. This range is out of warranty since it is over a year old; however, my husband says he would not want it back in the house anyway due to the obvious threat to our home and children. I looked online and saw that many other models were part of a recall, but this was not one of the listed models. I believe that this product is dangerous and needs to be looked at closely.

Source model text: GLEFM397DQB). Incident: Last night I just got done pulling a turkey tenderloin out of my ELECTRIC FRIGIDAIRE GALLERY SERIES OVEN (Serial #: VF51645500, Model #: GLEFM397DQB) purchased in and around 2004 or 2005 when without any warning or prior malfunction whatsoever, I hear loud electrical buzzing and popping as the control panel on the back of the stove top begins to arc and flames climb up the wall from the back of the panel with billowing acrid, black smoke. Thankfully, the circuit breaker popped and miraculously the flames did not catch anything that could cause my entire wall, kitchen and house to go up in flames. Once things were under control and I gathered my composure, I of course googled this brand and found hundreds of complaints regarding similar issues for this model. While I realize that this piece of [REDACTED] (and those made by most manufacturers) are designed these days to break down in 8 to 10 years to force you into expensive repairs or an entirely new unit, I am positively OUTRAGED that something as dangerous as an electrical fire is how it went out. While I can only attest to my own first hand experience, I am extremely disturbed that I read complaints where these units have turned themselves on by themselves and will not go off unless they are shut down at the electrical panel. Why hasn't this garbage been RECALLED before someone is severely burned and there is major property loss or even loss of life? Though my knees have still not stopped shaking, I thank God I was home whe

Source model text: PLEB30S9DCB. Incident: I have a Frigidaire Electric Wall Oven that I installed about three years ago per the manufactures installation instructions. Recently, the lower heating element burned out. I ordered a replacement element and installed it. The oven still did not work. I read in the installation manual that there is a thermostat over-temp switch located on the back of the oven. I removed the oven from the wall cabinet to reset the switch. Upon doing so, I was surprised to see a large, 14 wide, oval shaped burn on the outside of the bottom of the oven. There was also a matching burn in the wooden shelf that the oven sits on. Interestingly, there is NO matching burn spot on the bottom of the inside of the oven below the lower heating element, so I cannot figure out what the source of this burn is. Looking over the parts diagram for this oven reveals that on the bottom, there is nothing between the inner metal oven wall and the outer metal casing other than insulation. I have never had this part of the oven disassembled, so I am unable at this time to determine if insulation was not put in during manufacture as required. It is absolutely amazing that this condition did not start a house fire.

Within the first 7 months of use the automatic door locking mechanism wouldn't unlock after a self cleaning cycle. We call Frigidaire customer service department and were informed that this happens and all we need to do is turn off the breaker, wait 5 minutes, and then turn it back on. This worked and the door unlocked, but this needs to be done every time you use self clean function. 6 months later after turning off the oven, there was very loud pop from behind the stove. A flame, smoke and sparks jumped up the back of the stove. Luckily I was standing directly in front of the stove when this happened. I pulled the unit away from the way and grabbed a fire extinguisher. I immediately called Frigidaire customer service again. I was told it was the circuit board shorting out and I could purchase a replacement part. On 9/20/2014 while pre-heating the oven, the front panel display an f10 error with loud beeping. The oven could not be turned off while the f10 error was flashing. none of the buttons were responding, so the unit was turned off at the breaker. Frigidaire customer service was contacted for the 3rd time. This time we were informed that it was thermostat and that it should re-set after a 5-10 waiting period before turning back on. Incident: This incident involved a Frigidaire range/oven with glass top and double glass door used in a consumer home environment. The oven had been in use at a baking temperature of 400 degrees approximately 30 to 45 minutes prior to the incident. After having dinner my wife and I were in our living room when we heard what sounded like a stack of plates hitting the kitchen tile floor followed by the sound of shattering glass. When we entered the kitchenit was obvious the outer glass of the oven door had exploded outward. Broken glass was scattered across the floor and small patches still hung from the perimeter of the door opening. I have pictures of the incident to include with this report. I have talked at length with Frigidaire/Electrolux customer service and they have refused to even provide a no charge service call to determine if this incident is related to manufacture because my product is out of warranty. Initially I thought a call would be provided if I would contact Electrolux Service at 877-435-3287 to set it up. When I called and provided my Reference Number I was told it would cost $125 for the visit. I do not consider the standard product warranty to limit manufacturer liability for a catastrophic failure such as this. My Reference Number for this incident is [REDACTED] thru Electrolux Customer Service at 877-435-3287. I spoke with both [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] there.

I was lucky I was sitting with clear site into the kitchen when this happened! I had to call the Fire Department. I was lucky my family was not injured or killed! Frigidaire refuses to do anything about this range stating that it is not in warranty. This is a dangerous product!! Model #FPEF3081KFB, Serial #VF00271832. The real travesty about this incident is that this was a replacement oven for a previous Frigidaire range which also caught on fire in the same manner. I have an upgraded breaker box so that is not the issue. I wish to report this dangerous product!!!

Moments later there were large sparks behind the stove and "F10" displayed on the digital readout and a beeping sound was heard. "CANCEL" was pressed numerous times to no avail. The oven instantly became extremely hot and the cookies began burning/smoking. The circuit breakers were manually tripped and the problem was stopped. A lot of smoke was inside the stove from the burning food and a very strong burning plastic smell was emanating from the oven control panel area where the sparks were seen. The stove was pulled from the wall and unplugged. The home was aired out and fortunately there was no fire or smoke damage. In my opinion, if someone had not been standing right next to the stove when this happened, due to the rapid overheating of the stove, a fire would have erupted.

So in short I almost lost my house by fire I lost a $850 cook top and a $250 food steamer. I will spend a lot of time posting this warning on every blog, review board and web site that will listen. Do not by from this dishonest company that knowingly sell dangerous products. If you don't believe me just goggle "frigidaire cook top turned itself on" you will find this is not an uncommon occurrence. Thanks for reading.

Source model text: FFEF3054TSF. Incident: My family was watching a movie in our living room when we heard a pop and the outer glass of our oven door burst and shattered to pieces. The oven had not been used all day and the stove top had been used on low about 2 hours prior to the break. It was sitting unused. Luckily no one was near the oven when it spontaneously burst otherwise they would have been hurt. This is extremely dangerous especially with three small children in our home. Also, so glad no one was hurt while cleaning the glass as there were 1,000s of tiny sharp pieces. The youngest children still have not learned how dangerous broken glass can be and I hate to think what would have happened if I had not been in the room. It was hard enough to clean up with the help of a second adult. This was a Frigidaire FFEF3054TSF range/oven combo.

Incident: Today I experienced a terrifying and dangerous situation with my household Frigidaire oven/range unit. Our house came with Model # FFEF3054TSH, Serial # VF83504619 and we use both the stove-top/range and the oven portions of this unit in typical fashion, just cooking meals for two (nothing fancy). We had not had any issues or damages to either the cooking surfaces or the interior or exterior of the unit prior to this dangerous situation. The unit I am reporting was not in use during its spontaneous explosion, and had been out of use for over twelve hours prior. On May 1, 2023 at around 4:00pm CST I was opening mail at my kitchen counter when I heard a loud explosion. Out of the corner of my eye I watched the tempered glass window from the front of my oven blow off and scatter throughout my kitchen and living area. I realized quickly that the explosion I heard was the glass being blown out and broken from the front of my oven.

Source model text: FFEF3054TSF. Incident: I was using the Frigidaire electric range model FFEF3054TSF and I heard a loud pop. I started looking to see where it came from and I heard another pop sound and saw a flame burst up from behind the control panel on the right end of the range. I then pulled the stove away from the wall, and unplugged it. There was a dark circular soot mark on the tile wall behind where the flame was. I also could clearly see that there were bare wires inside the control unit that were touching the back panel of the unit. I contacted Frigidaire on the website and used the CONTACT Chat option to explain what happened to a representative there. I told her about the incident and asked for a remedy, and I specifically asked her Three Times if the company had a Recall OR if it was known about this defect. Each time she ignored my question and said that because the range was out of warranty' she could only refer me to a repair service for me to pay to have it fixed myself. I have attached a copy of the transcript of the Chat conversation I had with Frigidaire's representative showing that she ignored my questions about the recall and/or whether it was a known defect.

Incident: On 9/11/2025 at [REDACTED]pm my Frigidaire oven model FFEF3054TSM Serial number VF03609894 suddenly shattered the outer door glass while baking at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. The kitchen floor was covered in sheets and jagged pebbles of broken glass that continued to crackle and rain down for hours after the initial shattering of glass. There was no previous known damage or cracks to the glass. There was no one touching the oven at the time. The inner door glass remained intact. I shut off the oven immediately and replaced the outer glass two days later. Since there was no one present near the oven when it shattered there were no direct injuries but there would have been cuts from broken glass if anyone had been standing near it when it happened. I did get cut while cleaning up the glass despite being very careful.

Source model text: FFEF3054TSH. Incident: This complaint is in regards to my Frigidaire Electric Range Model No. FFEF3054TSH with approximate purchase date of 8/15/2019. I came home from work to find my range oven door shattered into my floor. It was not on; I had used it the previous night at a normal temp of 350 degrees and turned off after approximately 1 to 1.5 hours of use. It showed NO signs of cracking or damage prior to this event. I called Frigidaire immediately and they indicated there is no recall on the oven and will not pay to replace or repair. I was told that since it is out of its 1-year manufacturer warranty that they would not cover the cost. The rep indicated I would need to pay $120 for a service tech to be dispatched to assess or pay approximately $320 for a service call, parts and labor. No injuries to report as a result as no one was home or using the appliance at the time of the explosion.

The oven had not been used that day and no cooking or baking was taking place. I heard two loud noises from another room and, upon investigation, discovered that the outer glass panel of the oven door had shattered and fallen into the lower storage drawer and onto the floor. No one was near the appliance at the time, and the door had not been struck, slammed, or otherwise impacted. The inner oven glass remained intact while the outer glass completely shattered. Broken glass was found throughout the door frame, lower storage drawer, and surrounding area. Fortunately, no injuries occurred, but the incident created a significant safety hazard.

Source model text: FFEF3054TSR. Incident: The glass panel randomly exploded out of the front of my Frigidaire Oven. The oven was not hot, although it was moments after my husband began preheating it. My husband and I spent an hour cleaning tiny shards of glass out of our kitchen. Grateful that my children were not near the oven when the glass exploded out. It was not a crack and fall it truly exploded with a radius of about 3 feet. Once I contacted Frigidaire they informed me that the product warranty was expired. I only owned this oven for 2.5 years. They suggested that I repurchase the exploding glass panel and continue to use their product. After searching this issue online I found that many other customers (over 100) experienced the same thing. [REDACTED]

Last November, my Husband was on shift (fire fighter) and I was making TV dinners for my kids. I put the plastic trays on a cookie sheet as instructed by the box and put them in the pre-heated 350 degree oven (which actually smelled funny when it was pre-heating). I had it in only for about 5 minutes when the range made a beeping noise. I went in and there was an error code in the display. There was no way for me to turn anything off or stop the "alarm". I immediately looked up the code and it stated it was a "Run Away Temperature" code. I ran and flipped the breaker to turn the oven off. When I took the food out, the trays were completely melted onto my cookie sheets and anything that was on top of the cooktop melted as well~the entire range got THAT hot.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20121119-2F79C-2147461788. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Frigidaire Electric Range Model FFEF3054TS. Incident: I had an item baking in the oven at 350 degrees and an item simmering on the stove top set at a 1.4 heat level. Both items were under 5 minutes from being finished cooking. I stood in another room and then could hear what sounded like popping and hissing coming from the kitchen. Within seconds I was back in the kitchen and saw sparks flying from the electrical panel. I tried to read what the panel said, as far as temperature and time, but it was completely blank and then the lights began flashing half zero's and suddenly flames burst up from behind the panel. The flames started burning upward on the wall, behind the range, up to my microwave placed above it. I then left the room as it filled with smoke very fast and called 911. Within minutes the fire department and EMS were at my location, geared up, went into the house, and discovered that an electrical fire had started from the back side of the electrical panel of the range. They stopped the fire, unplugged the range, and removed it from my house. What was left after that was a strong odor of burnt wiring and fire/smoke damage to my wall. The firefighters used a heat seeker to determine that the fire had not burnt upwards on the inside of the wall or attic space. They checked adjacent and surrounding walls, as well as the microwave, and concluded that the house was safe from any more flames or damage.

I set the oven to convection bake 425 degrees, and in just a few minutes it started making a crackling noise. I turned around and saw sparks in the oven compartment. The control panel started flashing and the "locked" symbol illuminated and smoke started to come out of the vents. The was a strong electrical fire smell. the oven door was locked and the control panel would not respond, so I turned off the circuit breaker. The door remained locked. Removed the control panel and the ribbon relay was scorched. We have damage to the cabinet above the control panel. Fear we would have had far more extensive damage had I not been within arms reach of the oven when the issue occurred.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20251027-47CBC-2147326773. Severity: No Incident, No Injury. Product: Frigidaire Electric Range Model FFEF3054TS (Glass top Frigidaire Electric Range). Incident: Product: Frigidaire Electric Range Model FFEF3054TS Installed new by home builder in 2019 On the morning of February 25, 2025, I found that the outer oven door glass had exploded while the oven was completely OFF. I was asleep when the failure occurred and woke up to shattered glass all over my kitchen floor. There was no impact and no recent oven use. The failure was sudden and could have caused serious injury if anyone had been nearby. After the glass explosion, a secondary malfunction occurred: the ovens interior light is now stuck on and cannot be turned off, even with the door closed. This suggests a possible electrical or control failure linked to the door issue. The oven had been functioning normally with no prior damage or issues. The standard serial number data plate is missing; the only available label includes the code 316433617 B next to the service phone number. This is a safety hazard involving violent glass breakage and a subsequent electrical malfunction. I am requesting a no-charge repair from the manufacturer (replacement door and safety inspection). Photos are available.
