Government / agencyIndexed Oct 28, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — SaferProducts.gov incident

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20260824-02D27-2147312012. Matched catalog product: Samsung Model Number- RF18HFENBSR US. Source model text: MS19DG8500SRAA. Incident: On August 23, 2026, my son heated a ramekin in our Samsung microwave for approximately 15 seconds. When he opened the microwave door, a piece of the glass turntable plate flew out of the microwave and struck his hand, cutting him. The rest of the glass plate remained intact. We do not know exactly when or how the piece broke off, but the plate had not previously been cracked, dropped, or damaged, and the microwave was being used normally. The microwave is practically new - it was manufactured in February 2026 and purchased in May 2026, making it only about three months old at the time of the incident.

Incident: My Samsung refrigerator stopped cooling to a safe temp for food storage. As a result, I became ill after eating food from the refrigerator before realizing the temps had been somewhere between 54-58 degrees for a few days. This unit is part of a class-action lawsuit against Samsung. I have filled with the NJ BBB and the NJ Attorney General, due to the known manufaturing and design defects in these units. Samsung knowingly sold these defective units, even though there is no fix for the compressor issue or the ice maker issue. Samsun has refused a refund and instead has offered yet another fix for the unit. Again, no fix will help a manufacturing and design defect.

Source model text: Samsung electric slide in range model number: NE58H9950WS.. Incident: We sustained injuries from the use of a new kitchen appliance professionally installed by the retailer: Samsung electric slide in range model number: NE58H9950WS. The food poisoning injuries were due to under cooked food caused by the oven's failure to timely and properly reach cooking temperature set at 375 degrees. When food was placed in an empty pre-heated oven set at 375 degrees the result was a 100 degree drop in the oven's internal temperature. A calibrated thermometer was utilized to discover the defect. The defective oven does not recover to cooking set point temperature of 375 degrees until after 30 minutes which is not normal. The result was grossly under cooked food which is a dangerous hazard. When adhering to proper cooking technique, which we did, there is no way a consumer can predict when a meal is fully cooked, can be removed from the oven and safely eaten without fear of injury due to under cooked food due to the unpredictable cooking design of this oven. Samsung recommended to raise the oven temperature calibration which we did. This resulted in much higher cooking temperature which incinerated a meal and did not remedy the defective design of plunging temperature along with failure to properly raise the temperature to set point when raw food is placed in a pre heated oven. Altering the set point of the oven did not fix the problem due to inherent defective and poor design. This model should be immediately recalled due to safety, health concerns and potent

Source model text: RF30HDEDTSR/AA. Incident: My Samsung refrigerator model RF30HDEDTSR/AA stopped cooling for the third time since purchase. The temperature display on the front ALWAYS reads 34 degrees regardless of what the actual temperature is. After my husband and kids complained on milk tasting "funny" and everyone in the house frequently dealing with stomach trouble and diarrhea I bought an internal thermometer and found that the temperature was over 46 degrees! And who knows for how long! This refrigerator has a known design defect that causes the condenser coils to freeze and stop cooling the unit. I have had that part replaced or repaired three times. The loss of food and spoilage each time that this happens is one thing but it is NOT SAFE to have a defective product that ALSO provides inaccurate temperature readings on the front of the unit. Please take action against Samsung as there are years of service bulletins showing that they are well aware of the issues that make this product UNSAFE.

Source model text: RF263BEAESP/AA. Incident: I purchased a brand new Samsung fridge in January 2016 and started having problems with it 6 months later. We came home and noticed that the fridge temperature wasnt cold enough to keep the food from spoiling. After throwing all the ruined food out, we had someone come out and replace the thermistor. About 6 months after that, the freezer started freezing up to one giant ice block and we couldnt get ice out or even pull the ice box out of the fridge. We had it serviced for the ice maker, then it happened again over and over. Ever since the ice maker started freezing up, its leaked water constantly out of the fridge and onto our hardwood floor, so theres constantly a puddle of water on the floor and every time we open the fridge door water pours out onto the floor. Weve gone through fixing it ourselves, calling out service people to fix it, and it shouldnt be that way with a new fridge.

Source model text: RF26J7500SR/AA. Incident: Our Samsung 26 cu. ft. 3-Door French Door Refrigerator with CoolSelect Pantry in Stainless Steel Model Number: RF26J7500SR/AA has issues staying cold and the internal temp has risen to 55 degrees in a unit set to 37. This is while the front panel displayed a temperature of 37 degrees so we did not know initially. This is unsafe food temperatures. I have contacted Samsung about the issue and they say it is not an issue people have had before. However, I am reporting this because there are a lot of people who have experienced the same issues. Food safety is very important to ensure people do not get sick and the company refuses to recognize the defect. Fortunately, nobody in my house got sick, but with the high temperature and incorrect display, this easily could have happened. The fridge is used by my whole family, including my young child. This happened at the end of June with the temps, but we have had issues with the back freezing over in the past, which is what seemed to cause it since it couldn't stay cool.

Incident: Our refrigerator appears to have some design flaws. First, the unit leaks water inside on the freezer side that freezes in the bottom of the freezer. Every few months I have to take out the shelving and break up the ice. Second, the fridge temperature seems to fluctuate. There are external controls to set the temperature and we keep it set at 38-40 degrees, however when we take food out of the fridge it seems warm to touch. So upon putting a thermometer in the fridge we found temperatures in the range of 45-50 degrees. This spoiled the food and put our health at risk. We wonder if the several bouts of gastrointestinal problems we had were related to the improper storage of our food. Troubleshooting steps in the manual did not help. Samsung would not resolve the problem because they said we are out of warranty. They offered to send a third party technician, but would not pay for it, and we would not either. The refrigerator was about 5 years old when we decided to replace it.

Incident: My fairly new Samsung refrigerator, Model # RF28T5021SR stopped working on 4/1/24. The freezer still works but the refrigerator stopped working and the temperature inside went up to 68 degrees. It took a little while to realize that this happened so we went for over 24 hours eating and drinking spoiled food and dairy products that made us feel sick. We realized that this was a problem and we called Samsung. Of course, they offered no help. They make you speak with an outsourced customer service agent from the Phillipines that can barely speak english. They have no training to assist you with the error code on the product. They quickly try to schedule an expensive service call that doesn't happen until days or weeks later. The warranty is a joke. The refrigerator was still in the big box store for the first 2 months of the 12 month warranty. Then they have only 2 authorized Samsung repair techs in the entire city so of course I have to wait. A new product like this that i spent thousands of dollars on should not be disposable junk after only 2 years.

I also held the off/clear button for 3 seconds as I was told to do with no result. This is a fire hazard not only because of the heat inside the oven but also because it stresses the electrical components of the range. It seems to be a common issue with Samsung ranges but they will not issue a recall.

I have documented the countless interactions with Samsung via calls and their [REDACTED] support as proof of how disorganized and ambivalent they are to providing any support.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20230302-FB771-2147349108. Severity: Incident, No Injury. Matched catalog product: Samsung Model Number- RF18HFENBSR US. Source model text: RF18HFENBSR/US - 854-0672F. Incident: I purchased a Samsung refrigerator September 10, 2017. February 12,2021 I found water in the vegetable bin and called a tech who replaced the drain kit. June 22, 2022 the same issue occurred and the tech came out again - he showed me the back of the refrigerator as it had a hole in it. October 6, 2022 the freezer had total ice everywhere and was leaking onto my wood floors. The tech I usually use wasn't available so I called [REDACTED] and a young man came out the next day. He repaired what he could and said the radiator was cracked there was an upper hair line fracture which was leaking Freon. He recommended I replace the refrigerator which I have done. I sent all the documents to Samsung's office in San Jose, CA several times with no response. I tried communicating by email by contacting one of the Directors and kept getting responses that they couldn't locate the model - that information was on the sale slip which I sent them. This process happened multiple times.

Incident: I have 1yr old Samsung fridge/freezer, the freezer did a complete defrost and I lost $300 of food. The freezer temperature was -2 when the freezer defrosted. 3 attempts were made to repair, I told them the lemon law and wanted a full refund for food and fridge and they said no. The 2nd attempt was canceled by the repair company that works for Samsung only canceled the 2nd appointment due to no parts available. When they got the new part and came on the 3rd appointment the new part was broken and wanted to reschedule a 4th appointment. I've lost a lot of time and $ because of bad products known by Samsung

Incident: Our Samsung refrigerator constantly leaks water and builds up a thick layer of ice under the trays in it. We have water pooling on our floor every couple weeks if we dont regularly clean it. Its unsanitary and unsafe for food to be near this sitting water and also a hazard to us since we have slipped on pooled up water and almost hurt ourselves before. Samsung will not help despite this being a known defect and a lemon.

Incident: I purchased a Samsung refrigerator with French doors less than 5 years ago and within a year, water started pooling in the produce section leading to products spoiling in there. Then it would undergo cycles of freezing and thawing . Additionally the bottom door for the freezer doesn't close well and that leads to ice melting and water leaking out of the fridge onto the floor. The rubbers they use for the bottom doors for the freezer section aren't high quality and do not keep the freezer section well insulated even when I shut it extra tight. The temperature regulation isn't there in this model fridge.

Incident: After purchase of refrigerator in 2019 we have never been able to have ice from ice maker as should be expected. beginning in 2023 the refrigerator stopped staying cold enough to keep food from spoiling and has accumulated water in produce drawer and meat drawer causing meat blood to be exposed to other foods in refrigerator and cheese to mold. The food that went bad has exposed other foods to also be harmful to eat. lots of food has had to be thrown out due to possible CONTAMINATION AND hazard to health. We have attempted trouble shooting and have called Samsung support for error code definitions. I was told by [REDACTED] that she is not authorized to give out error codes list and we would have to have a technician come out to do a diagnostics to determine if the problem is covered under a 5 year warranty or not and that the diagnostics service fee to determine that would be a minimum of $160.00 and have to be charged on a credit card before a service appointment to perform the diagnostic could be performed. Even if the problem is caused by a faulty part covered under warranty the diagnostic would not be refunded.

SaferProducts.gov consumer incident report 20240501-17DEA-2147339434. Severity: Injury, Level of care not known. Matched catalog product: Samsung Model Number- RF18HFENBSR US. Source model text: RF18HFENBSR. Incident: Samsung Refrigerator model RF18HFENBSR. My fridge/freezer combo from Samsung has been thawing and re-freezing foods without notice and has been causing my family and I digestive issues and chronic diarrhea until discovering that the unsafe foods within the freezer were making us all sick. Not to mention the amount of money lost due to having to throw away spoiled food. I ordered the Samsung - 17.5 Cu. Ft. French Door-Counter Depth Refrigerator-with Ice Maker-Stainless Steel. The business committed to provide a reliable, working fridge/freezer combo that would keep my food at a safe temperature, however, that has been far from the case. The fridge/freezer combo worked for about 6 months until I noticed that the freezer on this component suddenly goes in defrost mode and thaws all frozen food and does this about 2-3 times every other month or so, that I have noticed, possibly even more. I have had to unplug and reset this unit plenty of times, for it to fail the next couple days or weeks anyways. I have had to resort to buying a separate stand-up chest freezer (not the same brand for obvious reasons) for the garage due to having to throw numerous frozen food items out several times in the past including breast milk over the last few months. I cannot keep anything in the freezer which in turn has probably run up my electric bill also due to the freezer attempting to cool an empty cooler when it does want to freeze. I have had the freezer serviced in the past, to no avail.

I hope my files were downloaded. If not, please provide an email address, and I will send the video and photos I have.). Incident: Product: Samsung Refrigerator Model Number - RF18HFENBSR-US Incident Date: April 22, 2026 On April 22, 2026, my Samsung refrigerator overheated inside my home to the point that cardboard egg cartons stored inside the refrigerator compartment began smoking. I discovered smoke coming from inside the refrigerator and immediately unplugged the appliance because I was concerned about a possible fire hazard inside my home. The incident was especially alarming because the refrigerator was operating in an occupied residence shared with a family member. The refrigerator was approximately six years old at the time of the incident and had been used under normal household conditions. After I reported the incident, Samsung sent a technician to inspect the refrigerator. Following the inspection, Samsung informed me that the company wanted to retrieve the refrigerator for further investigation of the overheating and smoke-related incident. Since the incident occurred, I have fully cooperated with Samsungs process and preserved the refrigerator specifically because I understood the importance of allowing further investigation of a potential fire-hazard event involving a household appliance. During this time, my household experienced prolonged loss of normal refrigeration and freezer use, requiring temporary food storage measures and eventual purchase of a replacement refrigerator. Samsung later offered me a prorated refund of $433.16, conditioned upon signing Terms and Conditions that included a broad release of all current and future claims related to the incident. I informed Samsung that
