SERVICE BRAKES

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11471375

4 days ago, after driving about an hour, I got an alert that said low braking power. This was after I had tuned my vehicle off to go into convenience store for a few minutes, then went through drive thru and got back in the road when it first alerted me. I took a picture of the alerts that popped up. I immediately changed direction and drove less than 10 miles to Tuscaloosa Toyota. They found no fault codes. I drove the car the next day with no alerts. 3rd day, it popped on and back off a few times. Today it came on after about an hour, this time while I was applying brakes, then would disappear. They diagnosed the issue and informed me of the below needed repair… Brake - Hydraulic Brake Booster Pump: BRAKE BOOSTER NO HOLDING VACUUM $1,274.73 I am aware that there were some recalls associated with this for my year model that did not involve my VIN. Hoping to get more information on the recall.

1st time this happened I turned car on around 4am after work and numerous alerts came on (LDA,CHECK ENGINE LIGHT,PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM,PARKING BRAKE MALFUNCTION,SECONDARY COLLISION BRAKE SYSTEM).I Kept turning car on and off but still alerts light up and not allow me to drive due to brakes on. Had to disconnect battery then connect and alerts were gone. 2nd time I was driving and all sensor lights came up again. Locked up my brakes and luckily no cars near by that could have hit me. Took video of the issues when happened. Also on my screen the messages appear of what was malfunctioning. I am scheduling appointment for issue to be checked. But have had other people state same issue happened to them and decided to report issue. Will see if dealer finds issue, even though others people with same issues have not got a resolved issue from dealers. 1st incident was on 10/22/21 and 2nd incident was on 10/26/21

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,ENGINE

64 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11618175

The contact owns a 2019 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the ABS, service brake, and check engine warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the engine had been running hot, resulting in damages to the engine even though the temperature gauge had failed to indicate that the engine was hot(H). The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to another dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the fuel injector for bank two. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the second dealer, who then diagnosed a failure with the head gasket. The second dealer stated that there was coolant leaking into bank two. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000.

You absolutely can not pull out in traffic because the car has a horrible lag, it’s as if it stalls at initial acceleration. Whether it’s pulling out of a side street, setting off from a stop light, or occasionally while already moving and speeding up. When stepping on the vehicle’s accelerator pedal, there was a lag of around five seconds or so before the vehicle started to accelerate at all. Yes it’s available for inspection upon request. The safety issue is the car can kill you at any moment but you never know when! The dealer has “fixed” the issue once already with a recall. The vehicle has not been inspected again because you never know when it will happen and they think they already fixed the issue! Initially I got warning lights before the recall and had the vehicle towed 3 times in the first month of owning it for its problem. Now it just does the same stuff without warning lights and hasn’t broken down yet.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11191485

When decelerating and then trying to accelerate vehicle stalls and does not accelerate when you push vehicle acceleration pedal. Its happens quite often when you slow at intersections or for a turn and then try to accelerate, it pauses as if the engine has died but engine is running, just no response when you push gas pedal for one or two seconds. One time while trying to pas a slow truck on a two lane highway, pulled out to pass and then tried to accelerate, vehicle just stall as if engine had stopped and was left in on coming traffic with out being able to accelerate for a few seconds, very scary. It seems to happen more often at lower speeds when decelerating and then trying to accurate. Vehicle behind me almost impacted rear of my vehicle when I tried to accelerate to keep up with traffic but vehicle stalled. But it has happened on the freeway as well. I have had it happened to me at least ten or more times when I have driven my wife's vehicle.

The factory glass center display console, in my 2019 Toyota Camry XSE, which contains a touchscreen radio and built-in HVAC controls, suddenly cracked in multiple locations. Small shards of glass are protruding from some of the cracked areas. Multiple owners have experienced this same phenomenon as highlighted in the attached link to a Toyota owner forum. A call to Toyota Care and trips to (2) Toyota dealers has resulted in the same experience; they stated to be unaware of a product defect that would cause this type of failure, and suggested that the cracked glass was the result of impact damage. That is not the case...the screen suddenly failed by itself. Obviously, the broken glass creates a safety concern for use of the touchscreen, and it's plausible that pieces of the screen could dislodge and become projectiles in the event of an accident. Please consider this failure for a product safety recall, covered by Toyota. https://www.toyotanation.com/threads/touch-screen-cracked.1397290/

ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11395054

When I had left my house, I pressed the throttle and the car wouldn't go, it was coasting still, but its like it wouldn't go. Then, I pumped the throttle and put it all the way to the floor. It had finally went. This car also seems to have a massive delay when we press the throttle at stop lights. I have contacted Toyota about the recall, which they did not inform me of, I had to look it up myself due to the nature of the issues I was experiencing. Sure enough. Fuel pump showed up on the recall which would make sense to why I'm experiencing these issues, the engine is not getting enough gas. Not only did Toyota not inform me of the recall but they still have not found a "remedy" for the issue, while I have seen a couple people commenting on their Facebook page that their had been fixed. Also, had found out I'm not the only one Toyota had not informed of the recall and seems to be a lawsuit currently because of that. I have a newborn. Whats going to happen if the fuel pump goes out with him in it?

Purchased my 2019 Toyota Camry XLE couple of weeks back with 5 miles on it. Noticed the vehicle had issues with acceleration. When resuming to drive from a red light or stopped position, the car seem to have a major delay in acceleration and makes a loud engine noise when pressing the gas pedal. Even pressing down a bit more on the gas pedal during this initial acceleration, the car does not react much and barely picks up speed. There is a major delay, one that can be dangerous when merging onto a highway where quick acceleration is needed to avoid being a hazard to other motorists. Have not taken vehicle back to Toyota service dealer but did text my salesman and described the issue and he said to setup an appointment. I have a feeling the service department will come back saying it's nothing is wrong and functioning normally. To me this is a major design flaw that has safety concerns tied to it. Please help in any way you can. Need Toyota to do a recall on this vehicle in order to fix this issue.*dt

2019 Camry --> Toyota has customer support program 24TE04 notification for problem with bad flow shut off valve. Problems are engine maintenance light and A/C not functioning properly. This vehicle was purchased new and currently has 3350 miles. The A/C has not functioned properly since purchased. Bredeman Toyota in Park Ridge, IL contacted and appt. scheduled for 4/12/25. The service dept. advised a diagnostic fee of $170.000 would be charge. Toyota contacted about this since the vehicle should be under recall for this problem that could cause the vehicle to overheat. Case #[XXX] provided. I rec'd a call back 4/04/25 from dealership Serv. Mgr. Mike Cooper. Diagnostic charge would not be waived even though I was told they have replaced this part on numerous vehicles for the past three (3) years. I don't understand why Toyota hasn't been told to recall for this problem. Please consider taking this action against the Mfg. Powertrain / transmission failure

POWER TRAIN,SERVICE BRAKES,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11242253

While driving up a hill, the Camry would not accelerate with the gas pedal fully pressed. At the top of the hill, the Camry with the transmission in drive began rolling backward down the hill at what was approximately 25-30 MPH. The brake would not stop the movement of the car. Eventually, the emergency brake was also put in place. The Camry rolled down the entire hill and stopped when the back tire hit the curb. The car was still on and in drive mode. We did not collide with any other cars because most were off the street. It was extremely dangerous. Fortunately, we could have been severely injured or worse. This took place on a city street. The hill is very walkable. The fact that the car would not accelerate with the gas pedal fully depressed is alarming for a new car with less than 4 months of use. The brakes would not stop the car from rolling backward while the transmission was in drive. Once the car stopped, it showed a car failure notice. The car was towed to Toyota and remains with the dealership today. .

My granddaughter was driving on the freeway. Car just slowed down to 30 miles an hour. Secondary collision Brake system Malfunction warning came on. Also, other lights came on. Luckly no one hit her from behind. She pulled over to the shoulder. Highway patrol came by escorted her off the freeway. By the time she reached a safe place to park, car would not go into gear. Car was towed to a Toyota dealer. After having the car checked I was told it was the transmission. Quote was 9100 dollars for repair. Car had 71329 miles. I have bought 3 Camry vehicles. I was disappointed with all the phone calls I had to make for some help for repair cost from Toyota. I finally had the car repaired after having it towed to Envision Toyota of Milpitas. Received vehicle back 09/15/2026. Out of pocket expense was 5893.03. It was mentioned to me at the Toyota dealer in Vacaville. The transmission was assembled differently in the years 2018-2024 models. Toyota knew about the issue customers were having and did nothing. Now Toyota is being sued.

POWER TRAIN

78 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 9, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11706226

My 2019 Toyota Camry experienced a progressive transmission failure that created a safety concern. The issue began with intermittent loss of shifting on cold starts, where the vehicle became stuck in 3rd gear. Engine RPM would increase but the vehicle would not accelerate normally. Shifting into Park and back into Drive would temporarily restore operation. Over time, the condition worsened and the transmission became stuck in a higher gear (5th gear) and would no longer reset, even after parking and restarting the vehicle. Manual shift mode did not function. This caused delayed acceleration and unsafe driving conditions in traffic. A Toyota dealership diagnosed the vehicle and reported internal transmission failure, including pressure control solenoid faults and metal found in the transmission fluid, and recommended full transmission replacement. There were no warning lights when the issue first occurred, and the failure progressed over time. I believe this represents a potential safety-related defect in transmission durability.

There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to caribbean auto mart (4523 estate charlotte amalie, ST thomas 00802, u.s. Virgin islands, 1(340)777-7600) and diagnosed. The contact was informed that the failure was due to fuel pump. The contact was informed that parts were on back order. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 8,000.*DT the vehicle was repaired 15 days later but unfortunately they did not change all the recall parts. They continue to fail the customers of the virgin islands by typically ignoring the importance of informing then about the dangers of these recall and failed parts. It is possible we are being disenfranchise and need to be protected under the antitrust laws. The owner of the dealership controls more than 85% of the market, which might be a violation of antitrust laws.*jb

Vehicle shut off while driving on highway during morning rush. Car shut off within seconds of flashing dashboard. I was in a dangerous situation with the possibility of creating a major highway accident, I was stuck on the highway with disappearing breakdown lane. Pulled code P26CB on OBD code reader at auto zone; P26CB7 pulled on Toyota diagnostic code reader= Engine coolant pump actuator stuck. Active tested water pump and pump. It working. Tested for power and ground at the pump and good. Need to replace electric water pump per Toyota. Diagnostic test $184.95 at Toyota. Toyota requesting $1,400.00 for repair not including diagnostic testing. Called Toyota dealership and Toyota and was told it doesn’t fall under warranty or goodwill that code P26CB isn’t the same as their code P26CB7. After the incident I researched Toyota Camry and this is a well documented issue that is being declined. My Toyota Camry was bought brand new and has 49,000 miles. I am traumatized and disappointed with the product and services I have received with this 2019 Toyota Camry.

Transmission issues when shifting from park to drive, reverse to drive, and randomly when driving. Numerous times when pulling out in traffic from dead stop after shifting from park to drive car didn’t accelerate leaving car drifting into oncoming traffic until gear engaged which is very dangerous to the point I wouldn’t let my wife drive the car. Warning light has came on a handful of times and had been dismissed as not an issue until this past time of putting it in the shop. Car was in shop for this issue 4 times starting in 5/25 and is currently in shop now. My visit in June I expressed same concerns and service center told me my transmission was fine. This current visit at service center they told me I’m going to need a new transmission. Vehicle has 70k miles and transmission is already failing due to a faulty product. Toyota needs to be held responsible for this as it is a major safety concern and they advertise as a reliable car maker but with these transmission issues that numerous people are also dealing with that can’t be true and is false advertising

VEHICLE STALLS AT HIGHER SPEEDS ON THE FREEWAY This problem happened 1 time on 7/22/23, 1 time on 7/23/23, and 5 times between 7/29/23 and 7/31/23 when traveling between Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Symptoms (this repeats every time) 1.High speed (freeway speeds) car stalls, loses power and begins slowing. This is very dangerous in heavy traffic and could have very easily caused an accident! 2.Pumping the gas pedal brings the engine power back within 3-10 seconds and the car picks up speed again. 3.The MIL check engine comes on and the instrument panel rotates through malfunction alerts from ICS, LDA, parking brake, secondary collision brake system, etc. and continues cycling through the alerts until the engine is turned off. 4.When restarting right away, the malfunction alerts and MIL remain. 5.After the car has been off for at least 30 minutes, sometimes the warnings and MIL reset. The dealer gave an appointment to have the car checked 3 days in the future. This Camry was not on the recall lists for failing fuel pump even though it matches for manufacturing date.

Vehicle has a complete transmission failure at 67,000 miles. Purchased 10 of 2018 with 5 year/ 60k drive train warranty. Vehicle has been correctly maintained since purchased. No maintenance or fluid change required by manufacture. Car would hesitate/ buck and made strange noise from transmission. Took it to be inspected at our mechanical the next day . Shop pulled codes from the car and then referred us to a transmission shop. They reported the fluid was burned and transmission needed to be replaced. Vehicle is not drive able at this point. Purchase dealership said to bring the vehicle in for diagnosis, but it would not be covered as it is out of the drive train warranty by a year and 7000 miles. No TSB's or recalls from Toyota at this time. Transmission shop reported that Toyota has a problem with these 8 speed transmissions and they are on national back order. Vehicle has been out of service for 3 weeks with no ETA on the transmission assembly from Toyota as of today. We had our fuel pump replaced in March 2021 by recall on our 2019 Camry. Four months later, at 70 mph on the interstate, the engine cut out several times with the engine jerking on and off. Also, we had multiple malfunctions and warning lights on dash which included but were not limited to LDA Malfunction, Pre-collision system malfunction, secondary brake system malfunction, check engine light on and reduced cruise control malfunction. We were lucky and managed to get off the road without getting hit from behind. We got off the interstate and managed to get home in "limp mode" with the engine cutting out another 4-5 times. On July 16, 2021, the dealer installed a second fuel pump after they reproduced the problem and verified the pump installed in March, 2021 was the problem. The mechanic said the defective fuel pump would be returned to Toyota for them to cut open and examine. There were no messages or symptoms prior to this failure with multiple warning lamps and malfunction messages appearing as the fuel pump failed. Spouse now will not drive the car and I do not trust it.

I am reporting a safety-related transmission failure in my 2019 Toyota. The vehicle suddenly lost the ability to drive forward without any warning. There were no check engine lights, warning lights, or alerts before or during the failure. The vehicle would only go in reverse and became completely undrivable. At the time of the failure, my children and my elderly mother were in the vehicle, creating a serious safety risk. Had this occurred in traffic or at an intersection, it could have resulted in an accident. After the failure, I contacted over 30 transmission shops and mechanics, and none are willing to rebuild or repair the transmission due to known and recurring issues with this Toyota transmission model. I contacted Toyota directly and was provided a repair estimate of approximately $8,000, which is unreasonable for a 2019 vehicle and makes repair financially impossible. The vehicle was towed and remains undrivable. I am currently paying $30 per day for a rental vehicle, causing financial hardship. I am submitting this complaint so this issue is documented as a potential safety defect

I purchased my Toyota Camry in 2020 with only 4995 miles on it from the Toyota dealership. It is now 2024 and I only have 69,000 miles on it and the transmission is bad. I took it Toyota and they revealed it is an inner transmission issue and I would need a completely new transmission. This is insane considering that Toyota makes money off of saying they have reliable cars. I have gotten maintenance on my car and mainly only drive it to and from work. There was no warning signs on my dashboard about this and I drive with my 3 year old son in it. I started to hear a winding noise in car when accelerating and occasionally some kick back. Now car is stuck at a dealership with no idea of when a new transmission will be placed because Toyota said it is on a nationwide back order. After doing some research I found that many other customers owning a 2019 Toyota are having the same problem with there transmissions clocking out between 65,000-85,000 miles. My safety was put at risk along with my child’s because there was not even a light on the dashboard that showed something was wrong with the car.

I just got the car about a month and a 1/2 ago everything seemed fine until 2 weeks later after I purchased the vehicle I notice some lagging and hard jerking in the transmission when I barely push the accelerator I notice from 1ST to 2ND gear it had a hard time wanting to know when to shift and when to wanna go smooth then a week and a 1/2 later the lane departure light turns on and the crash control I turned them off but it still turned on even know I went into the vehicle settings to turn them off a week following the lights started coming on more progressive except this time it deactivates all the cameras front and back I went 3 times and the main mechanic said not exaggerating *its like a phone it needs to learn how to work itself over time it will get better the only way we can fix it is when you brake down and get towed* all know is, is that the vehicle doesn't seem to know when to want to shift correctly there is a lag when pushing the pedal, when yielding and go it jerks hard when slowing down I feel it downshifting hard eith little thuds and my sensor lights come on and deactivate my cameras

Had fuel pumped replaced in Aug 2020 on my 2019 Toyota Camry XSE out of precaution due to a recall. Fast forward to today Aug. 2022, I have had issues the last week & a half. Iv Taken my car into Toyota dealership 3 times and they still can’t figure out the problem. When starting my car, it stalls, sputters, vibrates, and or dies after a few seconds, as well as every warning light going off, and very low mpg when it is drivable. At one point I was getting 7mpg and car wouldn’t go above 15mph. I told Toyota I believed it was due to a bad fuel pump, they told me it was replaced 2 yrs ago, therefore that can’t be the issue. I mention that maybe they replaced my fuel pump w/an original fuel pump rather than the newer fuel pump that was suppose to correct the problem. The mechanics response was “it’s possible”. Still w/o a car to drive while toyota tries to figure out the problem. A couple days prior they said it was fixed, picked up my car and as soon as I pulled out onto the main road, my car started to vibrate and sputter again. Hoping this time they will at least check to see if it is indeed the fuel pump.

The transmission is very clunky thru the gears. I have an automatic, sometimes its delayed when I'm trying to accelerate, itll hesitate before taking off. Iv found if you pulse the gas peddle and let up right as it starts to hesitate then back down again itll kinda avoid it but I'm not always such an active driver. Even down shifting itll be clunky and take a sec to fully do it. Like if you pull into a driveway that's slanted up you first of all have to slow down to enter and when doing that it's all slow at down shifting then u gotta hit the gas some to go up the driveway and it's all delayed at accelerating so the whole process is just clunky and does not feel right. Makes me feel the transmission is gonna burn out early. They say the 2018 models and up use some computerized transmission...i just want to it respond accordingly and to not be so sluggish about it. Sometimes I'm scared to pull out in front of traffic because it wont respond right away and I'll be at a crawling speed till it responds unless I floor it fast and let up before it revs past 3 on the RPM then tap it again. It's like it wakes it up or something I dont understand.

This is an extension to a previous complaint filed 8/15/23, complaint #11538570 I'm still experiencing safety issues and engine related problems with this vehicle after towing it to the dealership 8/8/23. Following 14 days of non-DTC codes coming up, at Sloane Glenside Toyota Service Center, the computer diagnostic finally revealed P107A2A and P12D501 issues. Although these codes indicate a fuel sensor and fuel pump control and electrical failure issues, the technician replaced a "vacuum switching value because of a low fuel pressure. I picked up the vehicle after the codes were reportedly cleared, and 5 days later, on 8/26, new dashboard warnings revealed a LDA malfunction, pre-collison malfunction, and a secondary break malfunction; all safety related, that caused the vehicle engine light to reappear, shaking violently, idling and eventually shutting down while traveling at approx. 30 miles, in the middle of a busy Baltimore Avenue, Philadelphia, road. I was unable to report this concern again to the dealer as it was on Saturday, after 5pm, and no staff was onsite. I plan to tow the vehicle back to toyota first thing Monday morning, 8/28/23.

My 2019 Toyota Camry has 75,000 miles and is experiencing a premature and progressive transmission failure that creates serious safety risks. Symptoms include hesitation and loss of power during acceleration, harsh and delayed shifting, RPMs increasing without vehicle movement, failure to properly engage gears (including reverse), and loud whining/grinding noises. These issues make the vehicle unsafe to drive, especially when merging, crossing intersections, or accelerating from a stop. Toyota and the dealership have confirmed the transmission is failing, yet Toyota has stated that no new or used replacement transmission is available and no repair timeline exists. The vehicle was returned to me despite being unsafe. Toyota has provided no transportation assistance, no repair ETA, and no remedy, leaving me with an undrivable vehicle and ongoing financial obligations. I am aware of numerous similar consumer complaints and ongoing litigation involving Toyota’s 8-speed automatic transmissions exhibiting the same symptoms. This appears to be a systemic defect that poses a safety risk to drivers and the public. I am requesting NHTSA review and investigation.

Our 2019 Camry was taken in for service under the fuel pump recall and after picking the vehicle up after repair we drove the vehicle for 45 minutes and had a pounding headache, nausea and close to vomiting from fuel vapors inside the vehicle. The vehicle was returned to the dealer and they stated it was ok. The next morning we woke up to our garage smelling dumped out gasoline and the inside of the Camry was overwhelmed with gasoline odor and vapors. We called the local fire department who had two fire department crew examine the vehicle and they agreed it smelled like gasoline inside the vehicle. The vehicle was returned to the dealer and they had a factory rep look at the fuel pump who stated as reported to us there was not a proper seal. We picked up the vehicle on 4/17/21 and on 4/20/21 as the shampoo smell was going away from where they shampooed the back seat the gasoline smell is now there again. The only way to properly fix this instead of guessing where the fuel leak is would be to use a gas detector that measures in parts per million and locate the leak and also likely replace the carpet at a minimum. We need your help in resolving the serious safety issue.

I recently purchased a 2019 Camry LE with 18k miles, I’ve noticed many instances of poor acceleration, struggling to find gears, very jerky shifting when coasting and re accelerating. I was attempting to pass a vehicle on a 2-way highway on which I had more than enough time and distance to pass, but as I merged to pass the transmission felt like it didn’t know what gear to be in and I could not accelerate and I had to slam on my brakes and quickly jump back into my original lane to avoid being hit by a super duty pickup. Had a service advisor tell me it’s a common issue with these transmission and they pointed to a couple other models with the same issues only to then be told by someone else that it’s a “characteristic” of the transmission, this is a major safety concern. Under no circumstances should a problem that almost got me killed be called a “characteristic”, this is a serious issue that I wish I was told about when purchasing my car. Extremely disappointed, I’m too scared to drive this car because of a close call I had within 150 miles of my purchase. Something needs to be done, as I’ve noticed many other similar complaints that almost got other people hurt or killed.

The first problem: the car has acceleration delays, it bucks and lags when switching lanes and driving in heavy traffic. The car jerks when accelerating at slow speeds. I almost got into a serious accident due to the acceleration delays when making a left in heavy traffic. The second problem is, I received a vehicle alert message on May 30TH at 10:30AM regarding the SRS airbag system. "A malfunction in the SRS airbag system has been detected. Contact your Toyota dealer to have your vehicle inspected." The airbag check light never lighted so I didn't see this message until a month in a half later. Dangerous for my passenger which is usually my oldest son. The car is in the dealership now and they are trying to figure out the airbag issue. I feel unsafe in my car due to acceleration delays. The VIN# is not in the recall list and I do not understand why not. It has the same issues as the other cars being recalled. The third problem: very randomly the seat belt alert alarm will start beeping while I'm driving my smallest son. Both of us have our seat belts and I do not own a big heavy bag. The car wont stop until I pull over, park, turn it off and on. This is not normal but it happens very randomly.

On multiple occasions (about 3-4 times a week) when starting my vehicle the engine stalls and I have to retry at least twice for my car to start. At red lights the vehicle lags and takes a moment to pick up speed. Often in a jerking motion. When accelerating to speeds above 20-80 MPH the stalling starts again and does not feel safe while driving. We notified our dealership about the issue when getting serviced and they stated they could not provide any information on why it was doing this. We have had this problem since December 2019 and has progressively gotten worse. Once we received the notification about the fuel pump recall we requested for the dealership to take our car in for the recall fuel pump and they refused to take our car and advised us to go to other Toyota/ Lexus dealerships. The other toyota/lexus dealerships told us to go back to the original dealership were we get are car serviced at have them take our car in for service. When we went to the original Toyota dealership where we purchased our car from, they still refused to provide a rental since we explained them how unsafe the car is while driving. We have tried emailing and do not get any responses. We also tried calling to speak with the manager but none of the managers have taken our calls or tried to call us back.

this afternoon we had 3 safety incidents in a row as we were driving from Austin to San Antonio. Our Camry suddenly lost power while we were on the highway, driving 70 miles an hour, when multiple warning lights came up and the car information screen said "secondary collision brake system malfunction, visit your dealer" when this occurred the car suddenly lost power and decelerated. We had to pull over and find a safe spot to park. Doing so was dangerous because the car was barely moving forward. for the first incident, we turned the car off and we let it sit for 5 minutes. when we turned the car back on, the error code disappeared. About 25 minutes later the same thing happened at highway speed. We parked, turned the car off, disconnected the battery and waited 5 minutes, on restarting the error code disappeared. After another 25 minutes on I-35 the car did it again. These were scary and dangerous events on the highway. We were fortunate to be able to pull over each time this happened. We were afraid and did not understood why. After the third incident, we were able to drive 1 hour without the malfunction reoccurring. In our internet research this seems to be a wide spread problem of modern Toyota. Please for the safety of the American driving public, please investigate this widespread problem.

On multiple occasions, when I accelerate — even lightly — the transmission of my 2019 Toyota Camry emits a persistent whining noise. The noise appears as I press the accelerator and increases in pitch and volume as I continue accelerating. As soon as I ease off the accelerator, the whining stops immediately. This behavior happens during normal driving — not under extreme conditions or aggressive driving — and regardless of speed (both city and highway conditions). This whining noise is not a normal transmission behavior for a properly functioning vehicle. I believe this indicates a possible defect or problem with the transmission (or transmission-related components) rather than wear-and-tear due to high mileage or neglect, because: •The vehicle has been regularly maintained (oil changes, scheduled maintenance, etc.). •I have not abused the transmission, used it for towing, nor driven in severe off-road conditions. •The noise occurs under normal acceleration and is reproducible. I am concerned for my safety and the safety of others, because a failing transmission — or a transmission with design/manufacturing defect — could lead to unexpected shifting issues, loss of power, or other mechanical failure while driving. According to a safety-watchdog summary of NHTSA data, there are 338 complaints submitted to NHTSA for 2019 Toyota Camry models.

Issue: loud whining coming from transmission during acceleration, rough shifting, transmissions slips. Rough shifting noticed shortly after 25k warranty. More details: I had purchase my vehicle new at Dublin Toyota and have serviced my vehicle regularly recommended by Toyota dealer. Took into dealer for 90k service which included transmission fluid change. After the service I noticed that the bill didn’t include transmission fluid on the materials list. I called the service advisor and asked if it had been changed. The service advisor said he couldn’t prove it as it was not listed so he asked that I bring it back in and he will make sure it is changed. I brought the car back in.. The service team never mentioned any concerns with transmission. Whining started a couple weeks after. I took my car to transmission shop, who inspected a found black burnt transmission fluid with metal pieces. I informed them that I brought my car in for service which was supposed to include a transmission fluid change. They said it didn’t look like it was changed, and if it was, the the service tech would have noticed the black fluid and should have advised of transmission concerns. I was advised that the transmission is damaged beyond being rebuild and needs to be replaced. This failure is a known and acknowledged issue with Toyota UA80F/E transmissions. The vehicle hit the trailer in the front part and it went airborn and flipped over and landed on the passenger side of the vehicle. It then rolled two times and landed on the side of the highway in a marsh in an upright position. The only air bags that deployed were the side curtain air bags. Out of the ten air bags only two ended up deploying.the wife and two other passengers were transported by ambulance to the hospital for precautionary reasons incase of internal injuries. At the hospital the xrays were negative of the chest and pelvic areas and elbow. One of the passenger's ankle was broken. The injuries were mostly severe bruising over several areas especially from the seat belts. A police report was filed. The vehicle was totaled. Both the front and rear bumpers were torn off, the driver's side was smashed in. The frame bar on the driver's side under the hood was bent. The underside of the vehicle was ripped off and all four wheels were bent out. There was damage to rear axel and front sway bars. The passenger side of the vehicle was also smashed in and rear window was shattered. The vehicle was towed from the crash area. The dealer and manufacturer had not been notified yet. The 2019 model year UA80 transmission abruptly failed while driving at under 88,000 miles, just a bit beyond the warranty period. I have to sell the car as is and take a $10,000 loss because of this defect by Toyota. My mechanic has photos and will document all the details. My safety was absolutely at risk when the vehicle abruptly stopped on the road while driving during a major rain storm but luckily nothing bad happened. Thankfully I was on a local surface street and not the freeway or a busy intersection. I was towed to my mechanic that has been servicing my vehicle since 2021. My mechanic did a thorough inspection and determined the transmission had failed. He also confirmed this is a chronic problem with several make and model years for several Toyota and Lexus vehicles that use the UA80 transmission. I also learned several class action lawsuits against Toyota were recently filed. There was really no warning other than it ran a little rough in the morning 2 days prior to the car stopping abruptly on the road. This was just a week or so after being with my mechanic for regular service. There are no replacement UA80 units available from Toyota, they are on back order due to all the failures, so my only option is to walk away and take a huge loss or spend $9,000 on a used unit that will ultimately have the same issue. I am probably going to sell at a loss and get a different vehicle.

I purchased the vehicle from a dealer in June of 2020 and was unaware of any ongoing recalls or that any required service had not been completed. I've had the vehicle in the shop multiple times for engine stalling while driving, engine shaking, misfiring, and loss of forward momentum. Not once did they tell me about the recall or that Toyota was aware of the problem until I took the vehicle to a different automotive shop. The new shop gave me all the recall information and advised that the vehicle is not safe to drive. The engine will sputter and shake in idle and in reverse. Consistently the vehicle shakes and runs very rough when in idle, reverse or attempting to accelerate from stop lights, red lights, parking lots, ETC. Dealership told me that I wasn't used to the electronic fuel ignition and that the sputtering and delay in forward momentum was normal. One time I was driving 65MPH and the vehicle stalled while on a island causeway. Luckily I was in the right had lane and was able to get off the road safely. Another time the vehicle stalled was in a parking lot (again slow speed) and again in reverse. The vehicle did sustain rodent damage to wiring on 2 occasions which the dealership repaired, noted the multiple engine misfires and "cleared the codes". The vehicle ran better for about a week and then the same problem begins reoccurring. The spark plugs continue to foul due to the engine fuel pressure issue.

On [XXX], I was involved in a high-speed T-bone collision with a FedEx truck while driving my 2019 Toyota Camry SE (VIN: [XXX] ). Despite the severity of the crash — which totaled my vehicle, caused the windshield to crack, and resulted in my head slamming into the steering wheel — none of the vehicle’s airbags deployed, including the driver’s front airbag. As a direct result of this failure, I sustained head trauma and neurological symptoms. A CT scan taken immediately after the crash revealed a previously undiagnosed 11–12mm partially thrombosed brain aneurysm, which is now causing ongoing vision problems, speech issues, memory loss, and loss of balance. Upon researching known defects, I discovered that my vehicle had a recall for an improperly calibrated Occupant Classification System (OCS) that may prevent airbag deployment — recall #K0M, issued in 2019. I never received any notification of this defect from Toyota. The fact that no airbags deployed in a crash this severe clearly points to a critical safety system failure. I believe this failure greatly worsened my injuries and created long-term health risks that would not exist had the safety systems worked as designed. I am requesting a full investigation and am pursuing a claim for product liability and manufacturer negligence. This complaint is part of a formal record to hold Toyota accountable and protect other drivers from similar harm. The contact owns a 2019 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the brake pedal would make abnormal sounds when depressed. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the front rotors needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred while driving. The contact stated that while driving at 40 MPH, an unknown warning message illuminated, indicating brake failure, and she heard abnormal sounds coming from under the hood of the vehicle. The contact veered to the side of the road, opened the hood, and noticed that the sounds were coming from the engine compartment. The contact was able to continue to drive the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer; Frontier Toyota Service & Parts (23621 Creekside Rd, Valencia, CA 91355) who informed her that they could not duplicate the failure. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring while driving and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the vacuum pump and the front rotors needed to be replaced but the vehicle was not repaired. The dealer informed the contact that she would be responsible for the cost of the vacuum pump replacement since the repair was not covered under the vehicle warranty and the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V890000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.

on 10/29/2021 my daughter was a passenger in her car and was involved in a rear end collision @ approximately 65-70 MPH upon collision with a Toyota Rav4. The Air Bags DID NOT deploy, The seat belt allowed her forward with her breast catching most of the impact, and the front camera system that should have detected the stopped Rav 4 did not alert. We had no error codes nor lights on this car prior and were not aware of any potential recalls. This is a complete failure of a car and safety systems that should have protected her. The entire reason this car was bought WAS to protect her and it completely and utterly failed. She is now in the ER with a broken sternum and currently being evaluated to see if any other vessel damage. We bought this car with the utmost in trust for the safety platform of Toyota as she is a double organ transplant recipient and at this time i am unsure if her transplanted kidney has been injured. The recall needs to immediately be expanded and we should have KNOWN PRIOR that this car had a potential issue and complete failure of all the front end collision safety systems! How is it that the air bags completely failed to deploy? Even the Virginia State Trooper on scene commented that he could not see why they had not deployed. I will follow up with more information and pictures as I obtain them after I make sure my daughter, her kidney graft and her boyfriend are ok. I am attaching pictures of the car and of the car that was hit. At this time I only have the exterior pictures but will get the State Police Report and also will try to get interior pictures of the car.

I started hearing a "noise" over the course of 2 weeks. When the accelerator was depressed, the vehicle never accelerated. The vehicle also seemed as though it was losing power, but no lights ever came on. I have only taken my vehicle to the dealership to be serviced. The maintenance has been done regularly and without fail. When I brought the car in for regular maintenance I had them check for the noise and they said they didn't find anything. I took a video before leaving for work the following day, and brought the car back. Because it sounded it was coming from the wheel well they charged me for a diagnostic and said one of the plates for my brakes was bent. The following day it was still making the same noise, but when I went to accelerate the car shut off in the middle of a major highway and then the check engine lights started flashing. I took it back to the dealership and they claimed it was an air flow component, said it would be repaired, and kept the car for 5 days. After the repair, it was still making the "noise" and that is when they said it was the transmission and I would be responsible for the repair. This happened at 150,098 miles. Needless to say, I will not be paying for that repair. I believe this is a Toyota issue and the customer, especially one who has been religious in maintenance and upkeep, should not have to bear the cost of a their design failure. I was also told although in the maintenance manual, Toyota has decided against flushing the transmission because it is sealed. No warning lights, messages, or anything of the sort ever appeared until the check engine light came on.

Disgusted & deeply disappointed in my first (& last) experience owning a Toyota is an understatement. I confidently purchased a brand new Camry in 2019, based on their reputation for reliability. But, as soon as the warranty expired, the problems began. First, the electronic water pump failed, costing me $1200. The thermostat failed while I was on vacation last year, costing $300ish. Multiple battery issues. Then, a few months pass, check engine light pops up. Says it needs an O2 sensor. Replace it, light goes off, only to come back a few days later. Take to dealership where they charge me $200 to diagnose. They inform me the car will not accept after market parts & I'll need to purchase one from them instead for around $600. Yes. $600 for an O2 sensor. At only 129k miles, the transmission failed. The car stopped in the middle of an intersection & would not move forward, nearly causing me & my child to be hit. Mechanic informs me that it can be upwards of $7k to replace with a used transmission, $11k for new, & that's only WHEN they can get the part, which is on back order for MONTHS. This is because the supply can't keep up with the demand, as this model has widespread transmission issues. It was explicitly stated it is a "manufacturer defect." Yet, no recall. My online research absolutely supports that this is a large & very common problem that should warrant some responsibility from Toyota. It was on a rollback 4 times in 1 year. So, I was put in a position where I was forced to buy another car, since obviously I can't go without one for months. My 6 year old car (at time of breakdown) is now basically junk. It sits in my driveway, worthless, just 7 months after payoff.

AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS,SERVICE BRAKES

73 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 8, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11677614

The vehicle is experiencing multiple active safety system failures, severely impacting driver control and passenger protection. The most critical issue is a persistent SRS airbag malfunction warning, along with the system failing to detect that the seatbelt is buckled, even when properly latched. This disables key safety systems such as airbags and seatbelt pretensioners. The vehicle also suffers from delayed or weak braking response, despite having adequate brake pad wear. This is especially dangerous in stop-and-go traffic or emergency braking scenarios. In addition, the adaptive cruise control system intermittently disengages or fails to maintain distance, and the brake hold feature does not reliably hold the vehicle when stopped, causing rollback or unintended movement. These issues are consistent with known failure conditions already documented in the following recalls: – NHTSA Recall 21V-890 – Brake booster vacuum pump failure – NHTSA Recall 19V567000 – Occupant Classification System calibration error However, Toyota has refused to acknowledge these defects in this case because the vehicle does not fall under the original recall VIN ranges. This creates a serious safety concern, as the same defective behavior exists outside the recalled population, and is being left unaddressed. This not only places me at risk of airbag and braking failure, but puts other drivers and pedestrians at great danger due to the potential for system failure during high-risk moments such as highway driving, stoplight braking, or crash avoidance maneuvers. A broader investigation into the root cause and expansion of the affected VIN scope is urgently needed before serious injury or loss of life occurs

I marked engine on the above as I did Not see anything about gas pedal acceleration. At a slow speed turning a sharp right to enter a drive through restaurant, I had my right foot on the brake. The car suddenly accelerated on its own, causing me to jump a curb & lose control. I landed between the restaurant building & drive through, taking out the signs & drive through. It was sudden & a nightmare. Busted both front tires & We had to get a flatbed truck to remove. Some employees there remarked that I missed a pole by a few inches. They helped me out of the car, taking me inside the restaurant. I was crying & very emotional, but explained what happened. I phoned my husband immediately & he came. I didn’t hit another car or hurt anybody. I was stoved up & shook up, but otherwise ok. I did get a back X-ray later because of pain, but thankfully no compressed fracture. The police was called & took my registration & helped get a tow truck. I explained what happened. My husband asked that it be taken to the a Toyota dealership, but it was not as they do not have a repair shop there. The car is in a local shop for repair that the adjuster recommended. Have not received the first part for it as yet. Insurance adjuster says $8500 in damage by phone, but we do not have a copy of this appraisal as yet. We will need to take it to Toyota for testing as soon as repairs are done & driveable, but regardless, this is really what happened & I will be afraid to drive this car again. This is vey dangerous & I could have been killed or killed somebody. We bought our car new in Early 2019 & I really liked it. I’m posting this now because Toyota should want to know this information asap for the safety of their customers!

68 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 8, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11651334

1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The transaxle (transmission) failed on my 2019 Toyota Camry, causing a complete loss of power while driving. This is part of the power train system. The vehicle is currently at Toyota of North Austin for inspection and repair. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? While driving, my car suddenly lost power and stalled in the middle of an intersection. I was unable to pull over, leaving my vehicle stranded in traffic. Other cars almost hit me, creating a major safety hazard. I was panicked and scared, and the failure could have resulted in a serious accident. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. Toyota of North Austin diagnosed the issue and confirmed a transmission (transaxle) failure, recommending a full replacement. Toyota has refused goodwill assistance, leaving me with an expensive repair bill. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? The vehicle has been inspected by Toyota of North Austin, and they confirmed the transmission failure. It has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes. Shortly before the failure, the check engine light came on. However, there were no other warning signs or messages indicating an immediate issue. The vehicle suddenly lost power while driving. The only related maintenance was a transmission fluid change at Toyota of North Austin on 11/22/24, but there were no immediate signs of failure at that time.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 8, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11398198

Before finding out about the fuel/stall recall I had a couple of issues which I did report to the panama city, fl Toyota dealership where I purchased my 2019 Toyota camery. Each time they checked it out I was informed that they could not see or find anything in the cars system (I'm guessing the cars computer/diagnostic system I don't know). I know this the car shutters/vibrates/sputters whatever or however you'd like to explain it, like it has bad gas in it. I run only good gas no low grades. Then I found out about this recall and have called the PC Toyota dealership servicing department 5 or 6 times that I know of and keep getting put off that their hq office hasn't approved the repairs to date. So I now am scared to drive it!!!!!! I have always been treated and been taken well care of by the PC dealership but at this point I am so disappointed/angry/unsatisfied with this car/pc dealership and Toyota in general. My life and other consumers that trust/trusted in this product/vehicle are now in danger of driving a car that could stall and crash and that could cause injury and possibly even death because of this recall issue. And we keep getting put off with them saying keep driving the car and contact us if it gets worse. They make you feel like you're being dishonest when calling into their service department telling them what's going on with their malfunctioning product. Or even when you take it in and their tech's tell you they couldn't or can't find anything you said. My car is getting worse each time I drive it. And the truth is we all take our lives into our own hands when we choose to drive these malfunctioning cars, because if we do pass someone and the car stalls we're toast!! If the car stalls everything turns off and locks up!! Common sense!!!

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS,ENGINE

72 months

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 8, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11689172

Component/System failed: The electronic control module (ECM) and related wiring were compromised by a dealer-installed Lojack anti-theft system. The device was spliced into wiring near the airbag system and ECM, causing repeated faults. The component remains in the vehicle and is available for inspection. Safety risks: 1. Wiring near airbags may interfere with deployment. 2. ECM faults risk stalling, loss of power, or emissions failure. 3. Hidden wiring increases short-circuit risk, especially near coolant areas. 4. These conditions place driver and passenger safety at risk. Problem confirmation & inspections: The issue has been reproduced in multiple dealer visits. One Toyota dealer identified the improper Lojack installation as the likely root cause. Service records are available. Warning lamps: Yes. Check engine lights and warning messages appeared within months of purchase and continue intermittently. Summary: The car was sold as a Toyota Gold Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicle, advertised as thoroughly inspected and protected. In reality, it contained an undisclosed modification that created hidden defects, repeated ECM errors, and safety concerns. Concern: The ECM is covered by the 8-year/80,000-mile federal emissions warranty and the 7-year/100,000-mile Gold CPO warranty. Yet Toyota denied my arbitration claim as “ineligible.” If such cases are refused, it means dealers can install aftermarket systems, charge buyers, and avoid accountability. In that situation, the Toyota Gold CPO program becomes meaningless—a consumer deception rather than protection. Request: I respectfully ask NHTSA to investigate whether dealer-installed systems like Lojack pose systemic safety risks and whether Toyota’s warranty and arbitration processes are adequately protecting consumers.

Note - three similar incidents within 20 minutes. Incident 1 - When pulling out of a parking lot and into traffic my 2019 Camry lost power and would not accelerate. It took me several seconds trying to figure out what was happening. I first thought engine stalled but that was not the case. I noticed a message pop up (and quickly disappear) on the dash display saying to "release the accelerator pedal" (may not be exact wording of the message as it happened very quickly). I took my foot off the accelerator pedal for a few seconds and then was able to regain acceleration control. When first starting to pull out of the parking lot the vehicle accelerated normally. I originally had more than ample time to pull out into the traffic but after the incident cars were stopping behind me as I was coasting. I had all other control (steering and braking). Incident 2 - (Five minutes after incident 1) When doing a slow easy U-turn, my Camry lost power and would not accelerate. Again my first thought was that the engine stalled but that was not the case. A message popped up (and quickly disappeared) on the dash display but I had no time to read it as I was trying to get out of traffic. I believe it was similar to "release the accelerator pedal". I took my foot off the accelerator pedal for a couple of seconds and then was able to regain acceleration control. Incident 3 - (about 5 minutes after incident 2). When pulling into the center turn lane from the normal travel lane, my Camry lost power and would not accelerate. I first thought the engine stalled but again that was not the case. I noticed a much longer message pop up (and quickly disappear) on the dash display but I had no time to read it. I took my foot off the accelerator pedal for a couple of seconds and then was able to regain acceleration control.

Vehicle was in motion on the interstate at 70 MPH. The check engine light came on and the engine began to stall. I had to pull over on side the road to prevent from getting hit by an 18 wheeler from the rear. I was able to drive the vehicle a while longer before the engine stalled again. I had to get the vehicle towed to the nearest Toyota dealership. They reported an issue with the fuel pump. The dealership reported having many issues with the fuel pump for the 2019 Camry. On the date of June 29TH repair appointment, they reported they fuel pump is on back order and they would not be able to get the part until July 22ND, 2020 due to so many vehicles having that defect. However, the part is under warranty and would be covered. As a result, I had to privately rent a vehicle without being offered a loaner car or a rental for 2 weeks. I had to spend approximately 1,000 in expenses to cover the cost of not having a vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a dealership in a remote area far from home and work. My disabled mother had to book a hotel to check the vehicle status the following day with my father. I've had the vehicle for 8 months with 29,000 miles. When I placed my VIN number in the system, my vehicle wasn't identified or qualified as a recall in the system despite the dealership confirming their were problems with the fuel pump and the description of the vehicle defect matching one of the 5 identified recalls related to the Toyota Camry. Based on my VIN #, my vehicle didn't qualify for any recalls, when I called the Toyota recall office, they reported my vehicle didn't meet recall standards .the kelly blue book reported 5 different recalls and their descriptions in relation to the 2019 Camry. I noticed the fuel pump defect/symptoms matched with my vehicle out of the 5 identified recalls.

The issue with the 2019 Toyota Camry SE appears to be a malfunction of the vehicle's transmission system, specifically related to the 8-speed automatic transmission, which is known to have a recurring issue. Around one month ago, the vehicle began to produce a whining noise coming from the transmission, which progressively worsened over time. Despite the absence of warning lights or messages, the noise raised concerns regarding the transmission's performance. The vehicle was subsequently taken to a Toyota service station, where the transmission was serviced, but the issue remained unresolved. Upon inspection, the dealership confirmed the presence of the whining noise and noted in their service receipt that a new transmission would be required. This suggests a significant failure within the transmission system that was not addressed through the initial service. The 8-speed automatic transmission in these Camry models has been reported to have consistent problems, which should not have occurred at this mileage (158,000 miles) under normal conditions. At this point, it is reasonable to believe that this issue is tied to a known defect with the 8-speed automatic transmission and may require a recall for affected vehicles. The safety of the driver and others could be at risk if the transmission fails completely, especially if it leads to an unexpected loss of power or control over the vehicle. However, no formal inspection by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives has been mentioned as of yet. In summary, the problem has not only been acknowledged by the Toyota service station, but also seems to be part of a wider, systemic issue with this model's transmission. As such, a recall should be considered, and further investigation into this known issue is warranted to prevent further safety risks.

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 8, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11761489

My 2019 Toyota Camry is experiencing repeated door lock actuator failures that I believe create a serious safety hazard. The affected component is the door lock actuator, which controls the electronic locking and unlocking of the door, and the failed components are available for inspection upon request. The problem began with intermittent failures where a door would not lock or unlock from the inside, outside, or remote key fob. The most serious incident involved my driver-side door. After the vehicle went into motion, the doors automatically locked, and I was unable to unlock or open the driver-side door from inside. When I reached my destination, I still could not open the driver’s door and had to crawl across the vehicle and exit through the passenger door. This creates a significant risk in a crash, fire, vehicle submersion, medical emergency, or other situation requiring immediate evacuation because an occupant could be trapped or unable to use the driver’s door as an emergency exit. The problem has now occurred on multiple doors, increasing the potential for fewer usable exits during an emergency. The issue has not been formally confirmed by a dealer because repair facilities wanted to charge hundreds of dollars per door to replace the actuator. I personally replaced the actuator on one affected door, and the door immediately returned to normal operation, confirming the actuator was the cause. Two additional doors have since developed the same symptoms. There were no warning lights or messages; the warning signs were intermittent failure to lock or unlock. The vehicle has not been inspected by Toyota, police, or insurance representatives. I am aware that similar door actuator failures have been reported by other Toyota owners and that a proposed federal class action has alleged premature door lock actuator failures involving Toyota Camry models, including 2012–2024.

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 8, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11455618

In JuneOf 2019 I got side swiped on the driver’s side beginning at the driver’s door while driving; the airbags did not deploy. The matter was taken care of by mutual agreement between attorney and other drivers insurance company (AAA). On 03/02/22 I was attempting to renew registration when I was informed that I had to take vehicle to dealer due to a recall on make and model before new registration could be issued. In the evening of 03/02/22 I stopped at the dealer and explained to one of the service reps that I was there because of a recall and he stated that there was a problem with airbags deploying WHILE driving; but it was too late in the evening because they were getting ready to close and the issue would take 2-3 hours to inspect. The following morning prior to the service department opening I dropped the car off for service. However, the service invoice makes no mention of the airbag system inspection. Instead, the invoice is for a low pressure fuel pump issue. As for my safety being affected, I now understand why the attorney handling the insurance claim as well as AAA’s insurance adjuster on the matter both stated “that’s odd” when they asked me (at separate times) if the airbags had deployed and I answered “no”. Apparently, according to the service techs comment on the recall having to do with airbags, my safety was in danger at the time of the accident in 2019. But instead of showing that the issue was taken care of on the invoice, in less than 24 hours the problem went from airbags to a low pressure fuel pump. How was my safety put at risk? Being that the impact occurred at the driver’s door while I was driving and airbags failed to deploy, had I not veered to my right up the curb I could’ve suffered serious injury to the left side of my body, at least. Has the problem been reproduced? Unknown. Has the vehicle component been inspected? From techs statement on 03/02/22 and invoice on 03/03/22, UNKNOWN. No warnings of any kind.

Powertrain / transmission failure

POWER TRAIN

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 8, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11706400

The transmission in my 2019 Toyota Camry went from normal, expected operation to complete transmission failure in less than 2 weeks! There was no advanced notice of the issue until the transmission issues became so pervasive that I was already taking it in to be looked at. That was when the dashboard lit up with notifications of pre-collision system malfunction, drive-start control malfunction and secondary collision brake system malfunction followed by a notification to take it to the dealer (where I was headed when this occurred). I pulled the vehicle off the highway and had it towed to the dealer as the vehicle was not drive-able and would not stay in gear. The reason for going to the dealer was the day before, I went to a mechanic and on the way the CEL came on. The mechanic noted the scanner did not have any codes and suggested I take it to the dealer... where I was going when the above happened. I use this car to transport my children to school and the 2 days prior to the complete malfunction of the car's transmission the failure to find a gear while accelerating resulted in multiple instances where vehicles behind me came exceptionally close to a rear end collision. On one instance, I was crossing an intersection and the transmission didn't find a gear and I narrowly avoided being struck broadside by another vehicle. The service department at the Toyota dealership advised the transmission suffered complete internal failure (providing numerous codes regarding the solenoids) with a cost of $10,599.67 to replace it. It worked fine 2 weeks earlier with no prior warnings than an occasional hard shift and an instance of a slipping gear. Fluids were not excessively dirty, I changed the transmission fluid as required with Toyota Brand WS transmission fluid. No leaks exist and no excessive indication of metal particulates in the used transmission fluid. I'm waiting on Toyota for information on what they plan to do. Must be manufacturing defect.

Subject: Urgent Safety Concerns: 2019 Toyota Camry XSE ABS Brake System/ ABS Actuator Issue Description: In late July, while on the freeway, I faced an alarming situation with six brake system malfunction indicator lights. After briefly turning off and restarting the engine, the warning lights cleared. 6 Warning Lights: LDA Malfunction, Pre-Collision System Malfunction, Lower Braking Power, Antilock Brake System Malfunction, Parking Brake Malfunction, and Secondary Collision Brake System Malfunction. Timeline: Around 38,900 miles, during an August 19th maintenance appointment, the technician identified error code C1300, indicating an ABS skid control ECU malfunction and advised dealer contact. In September, during my first visit to the dealer for this issue, despite mentioning C1300, the dealer recommended a battery replacement, which didn't resolve the issue. 2nd Visit to Dealer Service Center: Toyota dealer service detected code C1300 and recommended replacing the ABS Actuator for an estimated cost of $2,009.41. However, this may not guarantee issue resolution, requiring further diagnostics due to potential concurrent unknown factors. C1300 Code: The ABS skid control ECU outputs this DTC if malfunction are found in the circuit inside the ECU by self-diagnosis. Manufacturing Defect: I strongly believe that this malfunction in the ABS skid control ECU is a manufacturing defect. It's rare for a newer, low-mileage vehicle to experience such a critical issue. Safety Implications: This malfunction poses life-threatening hazards, including loss of anti-lock braking, extended braking distances, reduced steering control, decreased stability, increased risk in adverse conditions, and traction control issues. Repetitive Contact with Toyota Headquarters: Despite multiple attempts, Toyota hasn't accepted responsibility. Request for Immediate Attention: I urge the NHTSA to investigate this ABS system malfunction and ensure Toyota's accountability for customer safety.

The vehicle is a 2019 Toyota Camry XSE V6. It currently has 27,000 miles on it. On May 2, 2022 while crossing a busy 4 way intersection (35 mph) the car began to stall. The engine started to shake, impacting the ability to steer the car, the vehicle would not accelerate and nearly all of the dashboard lights turned on. It was taken to the dealership on May 3rd where a mechanic said a rock may have hit a sensor underneath the vehicle but that everything was fine. On May 4th while driving on the highway the same thing happened again. This time going around 65 mph. It was brought back to the dealership where they said it was a faulty ignition coil but that there were no OEM parts available and it was backordered with no ETA o repair. They advised to leave the vehicle as it was unsafe to drive. I asked why they didn't make me aware of it when it was brought in the day before and that they needed to fix it. I called Toyota Corporate and about an hour later the dealership let me know they would repair it with an aftermarket part. They commented that ignition coils normally do not go out in vehicles under 100K but it has been seen frequently on the 2019 Camry XSE V6 by the technicians. On May 6th the dealership claimed the vehicle was repaired. Driving back from the dealership on a local road (40mph) the same thing happened again. Dashboard lights turning on. Engine shaking the steering wheel. Car unable to accelerate. It was then taken back to the dealership again the same day. The dealership claimed to repair 2 ignition coils and that it should be fine. On May 11th the vehicle stalled again while driving on local roads (about 30 mph). It was again taken to the dealer where they claimed all 6 coils needed to be replaced at cost. I refused and claimed they needed to repair and left. On June 10th while driving on the highway (70mph) the same thing happened again. It was taken to another dealership. 3 coils replaced on 6/25. On 6/29 the same thing happened again

I financed my 2019 Toyota Camry LE with about 43,000 miles on it in 09, 2022. After having the vehicle for a couple days I noticed a delay in acceleration especially when starting from a stand still. I press on the gas to make a right turn onto a busy street and my car stalled/lagged for a couple of seconds before the car lurched and the rpm’s jumped up significantly. I was almost hit by a car since my car wasn’t able to pick up speed in time and the stall/lag placed me in harms way and kept me there. The car swerved and honked at me rightly so. When breaking getting off the freeway and my car shakes violently and the brakes doesnt seem to be working 100%. I took my car into an autobody shop near me work where I voiced all my concerns and needed to know if I just bought a faulty car. After doing a full inspection and a test drive the mechanic agreed about the delayed acceleration but the car didn’t have any warning codes so they assumed that their was nothing wrong with the car. I continued to drive the car and tried my best to write off the way the car drives as normal not worry. More and more incidents occurred where I was almost hit due to the lag in acceleration. Now the lag is accompanied by the car shaking/jolting through the lag. The shaking while breaking started happening from medium speeds as well as the higher speed previously. My car has also gotten increasingly louder when started, running, and in idle. The engine over revs continuously. I have a hard time keeping the car at a steady speed. I called Toyota and have an appointment tomorrow AM to have this checked on though I’m not optimistic that they will take responsibility for defect let alone fix my actual problem. From the research I’ve done on this car I found that people with similar issues were ignored/dismissed by Toyota and given no compensation. I have 3,000 miles left of warranty. I have 5.5 years and 20k+ to pay off and I’m afraid I’ll be left with a hunk of junk and out a lot of money.

At approximately 93,000 miles, my vehicle experienced a sudden transmission malfunction. About one week before the failure, intermittent warning messages appeared for Emergency Braking Malfunction and Forward Collision Warning Malfunction. These warnings appeared and disappeared several times over multiple days. About three days before the major transmission issues began, the vehicle was taken to an authorized Toyota dealership in North Brunswick, New Jersey, for a routine oil change. At that time, the vehicle was operating normally, and no transmission-related issues were reported. 3 days later, the warning messages returned, and the check engine light came on. Around the same time, the vehicle began experiencing serious transmission problems, including delayed shifting, harsh gear changes, and RPM flare-ups without corresponding acceleration. These issues created a serious safety risk because the vehicle could hesitate or fail to accelerate properly when merging into traffic, turning at intersections, or attempting to avoid hazards. The unpredictable shifting and loss of power increased the risk of a collision. After the check engine light appeared, the vehicle was returned to the same Toyota dealership. The dealership performed diagnostic testing and identified internal transmission and transmission control system faults, including solenoid-related failures and torque converter clutch issues. The dealership determined that the transmission requires full replacement and provided a repair estimate of approximately $12,000. The vehicle has no known prior accident damage related to this issue. there are numerous consumer complaints involving similar transmission problems in 2018–2019 Toyota Camry vehicles equipped with the 8-speed automatic transmission. I am filing this complaint because this failure occurred at relatively low mileage for a Toyota vehicle and presents a significant safety concern due to unpredictable power delivery and loss of acceleration.

2019 Toyota Camry VIN: [XXX] Issue: Blown head gasket and required engine replacement Mileage at failure: 116,598 approximately Mileage I am filing this complaint due to a sudden and significant engine failure in my 2019 Toyota Camry. Despite regular service at certified Toyota dealerships only things wasn’t serviced at the dealership was my brakes and tires, and a transmission flush in September 27, 2024. Other than that my recent visit to Bulter Toyota was March 21st 2025 which included a $334.17 maintenance visit in March 2025 and my car was good at the time I was told. Now a month later [XXX] my vehicle experienced a blown head gasket with no prior warning or indication of trouble just a check engine light one day [XXX] it never overheated. The issue was diagnosed on April 21, 2025 at Bulter Toyota. Currently renting a car from Bulter Toyota for $42.00 a day my car has been there for 9days The dealership has stated that the engine must be replaced at a cost of $5,335. Additionally, the technician made a concerning statement suggesting my car “looked like it had been in an accident,” even though the vehicle has never been in any collision. This further raised questions about internal defects or manufacturing issues. Toyota Corporate has been contacted, is currently conducting an internal investigation into this matter. However, I am submitting this complaint to NHTSA to ensure it is formally documented outside of Toyota’s internal review process. This is especially important given the pattern of similar complaints involving 2019 Toyota Camrys with the 2.5L 4-cylinder engine, including reports of overheating, coolant leaks, and head gasket failures. I am requesting a full investigation into potential defects related to engine performance and safety in 2019 Toyota Camry models. If a recall is later issued, I respectfully request to be included for possible reimbursement or remedy. [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FO

Government / agencyIndexed Oct 8, 2026Source-linkedVerify source — NHTSA complaint #11742843

I am writing to formally document a serious safety incident involving my 2019 Toyota Camry XSE (VIN: [XXX]) and to express my deep dissatisfaction with the reliability of this vehicle and my experience obtaining support and repairs. On XXX while driving northbound on [XXX] to attend a wedding approximately 90 minutes from my home, my vehicle experienced a sudden and dangerous malfunction while traveling at approximately 70 mph. While operating at highway speed, I pressed the accelerator pedal in an attempt to maintain and increase speed with traffic flow. Although the engine RPMs increased, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The engine appeared to respond to throttle input, but power was not being transferred to the wheels. This unexpected loss of propulsion occurred without warning. The failure created an immediate safety hazard. As my vehicle rapidly lost the ability to keep pace with surrounding traffic, I narrowly avoided being struck by a freight truck traveling behind me. I was forced to coast the vehicle to the shoulder of the interstate while surrounded by highway traffic. This was a frightening experience that placed my safety and the safety of others at risk. After the incident, the vehicle was inspected by a Toyota dealership in Kennesaw, Georgia. I was quickly advised that the transmission was the source of the problem. While I understand that a formal diagnosis may be required to determine the exact cause of the failure, I was surprised to learn that the transmission was believed to have failed. This vehicle has had only one owner and has never exhibited any warning signs, symptoms, or performance issues that would have led me to believe there was a transmission problem. The transmission had not been slipping, hesitating, making unusual noises, or displaying any other indications of impending failure. Given these facts, I find it difficult to understand how a transmission in a Toyota vehicle could suddenly fail. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREED
